DJ Henry Fong Stays Up Til the Sun Comes Up…An Interview!

Meet Henry Fong… a new killer DJ with the talent of weaving big-room progressive beats with electro-house sound,  launching him as one of the best new acts around.  Fong’s music has seen support from Hardwell, Avicii, Armin Van Buuren, Calvin Harris, Knife Party, Bingo Players, Tommy Trash, and the list keeps growing.  His killer new track “Hot Steppa” is filled with room filling beats, sensual tropical flavor, and a fresh EDM vibe making us want to keep the track on repeat! We had the chance to chat with Henry and learn more about his musical journey and passion for what’s to come next.

1. Introduce yourself in 5 words or less:

Outgoing, active, ADD, passionate, prankster

2. When did you realize you wanted to be in the music industry?

I DJ’d a ton in college, but it wasn’t until my music started getting support from other DJs that I started to realize it could be a reality. The past few months have been unreal & I can’t thank my fans enough for their support!

3. What is your favorite thing about creating new music?

I really focus on making music that’s fresh and unique and hopefully it’s able to make a long lasting impression. I think my favorite part is playing a new track in front of a crowd for the first time, though. It’s a pretty amazing experience!

4. Walk us through your creative proses, what are some of your rituals when you’re making new music?

First I think of the overall idea. Like for “Hot Steppa”, which I produced with Mike Hawkins & Toby Green, I really wanted to incorporate some reggae influences. That was a really cool project as we each brought something to the table and bounced ideas around constantly. Those guys are such good producers, I really loved working with them on the track! But yeah, I think once you have the concept/idea of what you want to make, the rest is just filling it up and looking for sounds to use. I also pace back and forth in a room next door to where I’m producing with the loop playing over and over to see how it sounds from far away. It gives you this different perspective on it how it sounds.

5. What’s the sexiest City? Hotel? Club? Music Festival? Song?

Haha, that’s a tough one! It’s probably somewhere in Brazil or something.

 

6. Which 3 musicians, dead or alive, do you respect the most and why?

I’d have to say Prodigy, The Beatles, and Dr. Dre. I listened to these guys a lot growing up and they’ve all really influenced my music in one way or another.

 

7. What advice would you give to an aspiring musician?

You have to stay focused and dedicated. If you aren’t up until the sun comes up a few times, you’re not working hard enough!

8. What’s next for Henry Fong?

I’ve got a new track that just released on Spinnin called “Hot Steppa” with Mike Hawkins & Toby Green. I’ve also got an official remix for Zedd’s “Stay The Night” out next week. There’s a ton of really great stuff lined up, too, but you’ll just have to wait and see!

 

9. What are your three simple luxuries?

That’s easy: the beach, wifi, and good food!

DJ Quintino Brings Us to Another World…An Interview!

EDM is all about evolution; the change from old to new and back again.  Quintino has the magic touch of creating new sounds and beats that feel fresh and unheard while leaving our ears wanting more.  Over the course of his career, this young DJ has worked with the likes of Tiesto and Afrojack.  He has performed at the most attended music festivals and has fans all across the world, all the while continuing to impress us with the freshness of his music, his excitement with every set, and the humbleness that makes him the person behind the DJ personality.  Quintino took some time to chat with us in the midst of his crazy music life to show us what truly makes him the DJ evolving with the times.

1. Introduce us to Quintino in 7 words or less?

Energetic always giving 100% with a smile.

2. You’ve been making music since you were 18.  How has electric music change throughout your career as a DJ/Producer?

For me it all started in Holland, when the hype was so big for the EDM in Holland .. so we made the music that was hot back in the time. But everything changes really fast, and as you can see the quality of all the tracks are way better and there are way more producers/djs nowadays which is a good thing. So you have to improve yourself over and over!

3. Define your sound to us.  How do you set yourself apart from other DJs?

Trying to be refreshing every time and not doing the same thing over and over. I want my tracks to have a lot of energy but always with a twist to a new sound. Sometimes that’s really hard. But with Epic for example that really worked out.

4. What is your drink of choice and why?

Alcohol is Grey Goose because it’s the best vodka and no hangover! Non alcohol is apple juice and I really don’t know why I just like it.

5. What are three things we wouldn’t know by looking at you?

I love soccer games and I played it myself for a long time.  I eat a lot of sushi.  You can wake me up for that. I always buy new socks.

6. How does it feel to work with huge DJs like Tiesto and Afrojack?

Thats amazing. I was so honored that Tiesto put me at the DJ Mag as breakthrough artist! And with Afrojack we started as friends and when we tour we tour as friends.  That’s a really good thing.

7. What are some of your rituals when producing/mixing tracks?

Standing up every 15 minutes to do something.  I like to work late at night when everything around me is quiet and there are no distractions.

8. If you could work with any three musicians, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

That’s easy! Michael Jackson for sure. Biggest pop star ever and I would let him sing on some new EDM music.  Sia.  I think she is one of the best vocalists of the world, loving all the tracks she has done. Usher is the last one but already a big fan from when I was young till now.

9. If you had to master a different genre of music, which one would it be and why?

Hip hop! I really love the nasty dry beats, especially the ones from the Neptunes from back in the time.

10. How do you define sexy?

If music brings you to another world and you feel in top of the world!

12. When touring, what are the three things you always have to have with you?

Laptop , phone and fresh new socks.

A lot of love from my family even though I don’t see them a lot.  Skype and complimentary water in the hotel rooms hahahahahahahaha!

E!’s Jacqueline M. Wood Defines Sexy in the New Reality Show “Party On”!

Emmy-nominated “Bold and the Beautiful” actress and singer Jacqueline M. Wood takes us on an non-stop party on E!’s new reality series Party On. Each episode will focus on one glamorous location where Jacqui will spend 48 hours checking out the incredible vistas, tasting the delectable cocktails and cuisine, and trying out the often extreme activities that make each destination one-of-a-kind.  Along the way, Jacqui will meet celebrities, jet-setters and local legends who will join her two-day adventure and keep the party going as she experiences the best of the best of each hotspot.  The new weekly series “Party On” premieres December 5th on E! The new jetsetter took some time to chat with us about her experience and what we should expect from the crazy parties, beautiful beaches and sexy people!

1. Introduce yourself in five words or less.

Dare devil, Curious, Loyal.

2. Tell us about Party On and what we should expect from the show?

You can expect to see the most luxurious party destinations from an insider’s perspective, behind the velvet rope. VIP clubs, beach parties, culture, high-end shopping; you name it, Party On has it! I jet-set to each location and use social media to meet people in the area and along the way. You will get see craziness unfold, the extravagant lifestyle, and a playground of opulence.

3. What has been your favorite Party On place so far and why?

I can’t pick just one destination! Each place had something incredible and unique to offer. From the way the multi-billionaires enjoy life in Sardinia and St. Tropez, to the crazy parties in Ibiza and Istanbul where East meets West, to the beautiful beaches of Mykonos, the entire experience is something I will never forget.

4. If you could pick the next party destination, where would it be and why?

That’s a tough one, there are so many to choose from! I know the next spot I want to hit is Brazil. Florianopolis would be my destination for the cool parties and beach. I think most of South America just oozes sensuality and is filled with sexy people wanting to have a good time. Also, with the World Cup being in Brazil next year, it’s going to be crazy!

5. Any funny culture shock stories?

I had a communication mishap with a masseuse in Marrakech   who I thought was going to give me a two-hour massage. When I went in the room, I was asked to disrobe. Now, usually the attendant leaves first, but she stayed in the room… which was a little awkward.  After that instead of asking me to lie down she proceeded to scrub my body and then wrap my entire body in saran wrap and left me on the bed.  An hour later, still alone, I ended up bouncing out of the bed like a Mexican jumping bean.  Naked and saran wrapped, I hopped down the hallway calling out to my girlfriend who I knew was having the same awkward experience down the hall from me. What a sight we were! Luckily the last hour we ended up actually getting our massage.

6. How do you define sexy?

To me, sexy is being confident, comfortable in your own skin and open to new life experiences. When you’re able to laugh at yourself, that’s sexy.

7. What is the sexiest City? Hotel? Club? Restaurant? Beach? Place to shop?

Sexiest City: Hvar, Croatia.

Sexiest Hotel: The Muse Hotel, St. Tropez

Sexiest Club: Villa Romana, St. Tropez.

Sexiest Beach: Nammos Beach, Mykonos

Place to shop: Poto Cervo, Sardina

8. How does someone land such a killer job?

I am so blessed to have been given such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as the host of E!’s Party On. I have always been a fan of Wild On, but who wouldn’t be? Traveling the world to the most exotic destinations, access to lavish excess, it’s the ultimate dream job. Traveling is something I love to do, whether for work or not, so I think that my natural love for exploration and a willingness to try just about anything (from activities to food) played a huge part. Do what you love, and love what you do.

9. What’s next for Jacqueline M Wood?

Well since I’ve gotten back from my wild trip around the Mediterranean, I’m not looking too far ahead at the moment. I’ve told myself I’m sleeping for a week straight, and once I wake up I’ll be doing a major detox so I’m ready to party for the premiere of “Party On” on E! on December 5th!

10. What are your three simple luxuries?

I am such a foodie! I post many of my favorite dishes from around the world on Twitter and Facebook. Also, I love luxury bathtubs that you feel like you can just soak in forever. I also collect perfume and love finding new exotic scents. Whenever I wear an old perfume, it always takes me back to the time in my life when I used to wear it.  It’s fun to buy a new perfume for a vacation, then when you get home, whenever you wear it, it takes you right back to the holiday!

Why have you returned to Project Runway?

To be the first 2 win both titles.

What have been your most enjoyable and most difficult challenges so far and why?

I felt the most connection with the first challenge. The bug one, not so much.

Who is your toughest competition?

Myself. I can over think and spin out of control. I just need to feel and I’m kool.

Project Runway All Stars’ Christopher Palu is Back…An Interview!

One of our favorite designers from Project Runway’s Season 10 is back and ready for action this season for Project Runway All Stars.  Sweet voiced Christopher Palu has a great eye for design, fashion, style and calling people out for their hot mess of a project!  Though Christopher didn’t win his season, he came pretty close and we wished he would have taken home the crown.  Now he’s back for another crazy round, with a more impressive hairstyle and even more impressive designs! Christopher took the time to chat with us about this new All-Stars season and what we should expect from the judges.

Why have you returned to Project Runway?

Why not? I had a great time on Season 10, I think it’s an honor to be asked back.

Foy Vance…A Backstage Interview

The moment he opens his mustached mouth you get the same fabulous feeling as when a cool blonde slides a glass of Jameson your way across the bar; a little Irish sure does do a body good.

We fancied that if Foy Vance could travel from Europe to Nashville for us, we could road-warrior our way from Indianapolis to Music City for him. 
Why not? We’d been fans of his yearning-filled heartbreakers for years, having first heard his album “Hope” while strolling through the streets of Manhattan.
We stood tapping the toes of our ankle boots on a chilly night, hands jammed in our pockets.  We were ready to wait, as good diligent fans, till the doors of The Basement would open to let us in.  But sooner than we anticipated, the doors opened and Foy and his band stepped out onto the bar’s weathered porch. In a thick daydream-inducing accent, he announced that he wanted to sing a couple of songs for those too young to get in or too late to snag the sold out tickets.  Outside, in our world, he played two songs that elicited a sing-along and soft applause, everyone wowed by the gracious unexpected serenade, making us love him even more. 

Afterward, we followed the band back to their RV, and got to ask the blue eyed charmer a few questions.

Raannt: How would you describe your style?
Foy Vance: Honest.

RT:  Describe the audience you usually look out into the crowd and see.  What kind of people resonate with your music?

FV:  It is ever-changing.  There was a time when I was growing up when you were either a mod or a rocker or a punk.  It was quite segregated.  But now the vast majority of people I know are into everything from Black Sabbath to Celine Dion.  That’s a bad example: she’s terrible, I think.  (To which our photographer and his manager heartily disagreed.) Maybe everything from Black Sabbath to Michael Jackson.  People are into music that matters, that speaks, although it used to be quite segregated.  So I don’t really think of a specific audience because people are so aware of what truth is. They’re exposed to so much.  Music shouldn’t be a marketing exercise.  You should be putting out what you believe in.

R:  How has your fan base grown here in America?

FV:  I think that [being featured on] Vampire Diaries and House helps.  Over here that’s a bigger thing than other places.  People used to listen to the radio. Now people are watching True Blood and say “What the f*** is that song?”  That’s been a huge part of it, that’s why tonight is sold out.

R: How do you define sexy?
FV: You.
(Did we mention he was a charmer?)
Really, it’s anyone who doesn’t realize they’re sexy.

R:  Who are a couple musicians you love that deserve more attention?

FV:  You’re looking at them. [Pointing at band mates.]  Conor is in The Uncontested, which got rave reviews on the Irish Times and from the BBC.  Lee, my manager, writes songs that would break your f***in’ heart.  Whether you like it or not, and you may not: it’s true. There are two types of music: true and not so true. True and Justin Bieber.

R: What are the three simple luxuries you love having with you from home for your time on the road?

FV:  My girlfriend, making love to her, and a CD of ‘The Uncontested’ (bassist Conor McCreanor’s band.)

His eyes danced while we chatted, hands busy rolling a cigarette, a slight grin constantly spreading under an upturned copper mustache that’d make a bare-knuckle boxer from a couple hundred years ago jealous.

We joined the crowd filling The Basement to the brim and spent the next couple of hours swaying, swooning, and singing along.  The notes from Foy’s new album “Joy of Nothing” came accompanied with stories and swigs of beer.  On more than one occasion, he called incredible southern songbirds out of the audience to come join him onstage, as if they were old friends.

There was pure Nashville magic mixed up in his lilting lyrics, the exposed brick, and neon lights.  We joined him in the last chorus: “When I need to get home, you’re my guiding light, you’re my guiding light.”  Over & over & over we sang, in fact, we sang him right out of the building.  We sang until we were all a little raspy and till that Tennessee tavern felt just like a pub full of friends. 
Maybe even an Irish pub at that.

Onision’s Raw Honesty…An Interview

We’re huge YouTube fans, which is why we get so excited when we get to interview someone who consider a YouTube “star”.  Interestingly, almost everyone we interview is so humble that they don’t consider themselves stars even though each of their videos garnish hundreds of thousands of views.  Onision is one of these stars, although he doesn’t consider himself “big”.  That’s part of what we like about him, not to mention his intense humor, sarcasm and honesty.  His videos have us coming back more, day after day, which is why we wanted to talk to him and find out a little bit more about the guy behind the camera.  His raw honesty made us love him even more.

1.  Describe yourself using only 5 words.
Motivated, controversial, perseverant, imperfect & fair.

2. What are three things about you we wouldn’t know by looking at you?
(1) I survived chronic depression.
(2) I have very little patience for dishonest people.
(3) I believe anything that has not been proven impossible, is possible.

3. What motivated you to begin making YouTube videos?
I first started making videos off and on when I was 15, I did it for fun. Later it turned into something that simply kept me going, gave me reason.

4. What was the moment you knew you had made it big on YouTube and how long did it take you to get there?
I’ve never made it big on YouTube, or anywhere… I’ve been on over 5 television networks, and acquired hundreds of millions of views online over the years, but that’s not what I consider “big”.

5. What, if any, are some of the opportunities you’ve had as a result of your YouTube fame?
I’ve been invited to be on Television shows, in movies etc. however the only projects that really came through were the ones that simply took advantage of content I had already made.

6. What are your three favorite videos you’ve made?
I’ve made thousands overall, however I’d say 30% of my main-channel videos are my favorites. I wouldn’t want to cut it down to just three.

7. Who are your three favorite YouTubers…besides yourself?
Nathan Barnatt, StoneFoxMedia & Mitchell Davis (I only say those because I often actually watch their videos when they release new ones)

8. What kind of camera and editing equipment do you use?
I use Adobe software & various camcorders/DSLRs.

9. What is a topic too personal to discuss in your videos?
It would be contradictory for me to highlight something I wished to remain private, so answering this question would not be productive.

10. We greatly appreciate your humor and sarcasm, but you seem to receive a lot of nasty comments for some of your sarcasm.  How do you deal with hate mail or negative comments?
However I feel like responding. Sometimes I ignore it, sometimes I respond to it, but most the time, i don’t even see it.

11. You’ve spoken out in the past about your own issues with suicidal ideation.  What advice would you give to someone who is suicidal?
Get help, and if the help doesn’t help you, get different help. But whatever you do, don’t give up on yourself, as there is no real accomplishment in doing so.

12. What three things will you do for your child that you didn’t get from your parents?
So long as all parties are healthy & happy, how people raise their children is not a public concern. I have no need to answer questions of this nature.

13. You’ve also spoken about vegetarianism, homophobia and drugs.  Why are these issues important to you?
I’ve spoken about hundreds of things. The three topics you mentioned are not necessarily more important than many of the other issues I’ve discussed. If I talk about something, it’s normally because I just feel like talking about it.

14.  If you could only listen to 3 CD’s for the rest of your life and they couldn’t be mixed, what would they be?
I feel Nine Inch Nails albums fill most all genres that I’m interested in.

15. How do you define sexy? Who is the sexiest celebrity? Sexiest YouTuber? Sexiest place to kiss? Sexiest song?
Right now, I don’t really care.

16.  Let’s play murder, marry, fuck.  iJustine, Shane Dawson, Jenna Marbles. 
I don’t have any desire to kill anyone, nor do I have any desire to just mindlessly have sex with anyone. Who would I want to marry? My wife.

17.  Last book you read? Last text you received? Last meal? Last movie you saw?
I rarely read, so I do not recall. The text? Probably spam. Meal? Fruit bar. Movie? Carrie.

18. What advice would you give someone wanting to make a career of making YouTube videos?
I started making videos because it’s my passion. I sucked at first, but I got better. It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you don’t even know how to start, I’d say you’re in for a significant challenge. Just do your best, do what you’re compelled to do, do it because you care about your audience, and want to entertain, not just for yourself.

19. What would you like to have accomplished in the next 10 years?
In all aspects of my life: significant progress.

20.  What are your three simple luxuries?
Simple? Health, food & shelter. May not seem like a luxury to most, but I certainly appreciate it, and view it as a gift.

June Diane Raphel Talks Latex Suits, STD’s & the Secret of “Burning Love”…An Interview

Comedienne June Diane Raphael steps into E!’s second season of “Burning Love” as Julie Gristlewhite, a girl that is hungry for passion, love and a thirst to put out the fire that burns.  In this season,  psychologically damaged, yet destined for the kind of love that is only found on reality TV, dental hygienist Julie Gristlewhite (June Diane Raphael) has her choice of hunky bachelors vying for her heart and hoping to win her box.  Michael Cera, Jerry O’Connell, Colin Hanks and Ryan Hansen play just a few of her dashing suitors.   We had the pleasure of chatting with June about what to expect from this season and to let us in a world that truly makes us wonder “What does really go on, on those bachelor/bachelorette show?! Is this it?!” And did we mention that this beauty is in the upcoming Anchorman 2?!

Total Divas Eva Marie Plans to Dominate the World!

Eva Marie may be a new comer to the WWE, but the girl has moves that make her an all-star in our eyes.  The WWE and E! star takes some time off of her training, filming, and wedding planning schedule to chat with us about what it’s truly like being a WWE Diva, life behind the E! cameras and a little insight on her fellow cast mates.  Total Divas returns Sunday, November 10th at 10pm on E! and while we wait, savor the sweet taste on the Eva Marie WWE Total Diva exclusive.

1. Introduce yourself in 5 words or less.

All I need is one word to describe myself and that is RELENTLESS.

2. How were you introduced to the world of WWE?

When I was younger, I would watch with my brothers.

3. What has your experience on Total Divas been like?

It’s competitive, fast paced, and literally action packed. Total Divas gives people an insight of a day in the life of a WWE Diva! I absolutely love it!

4. What is something about you we wouldn’t know by looking at you?

That I have a BA in Business and one of my life goals is to establish a nonprofit organization.

5. How do you define sexy?

Strong, Independent, and intelligent! Sexy begins on the inside and manifests on the outside.

6. What is the sexiest Hotel? City? Club? Beach? WWE Diva?

The sexiest hotel I would say is the Montage resort in Laguna Beach, CA.  City I would say, Miami. Club, any health club. Ibiza beach. Sexiest WWE Diva, well I would have to say myself because I am always bringing the heat!

The Witches of East End’s Rachel Boston Tells Us About Magic, Ghosts and Romance!

Rachel Boston has captured the eyes of Lifetime fans with her latest roll as Ingrid Beauchap in Witches of East End.  Although the season has just begun, the cast has already bewitched us by their work and talent.  Rachel is a big part of the series, a main part of it in fact, and we’re extremely excited to learn more about her and what the first season of Withes of East End will bring to our homes every Sunday night!  Check out what we learned from this beauty and don’t forget to watch Witches of East End every Sunday night at 10/9C on Lifetime.

1. Describe yourself in five words or less.

Dreamer, seeker, passionate, resilient, romantic

2. Tell us about the Witches of East End.  What should fans expect from this first season?

The first season is filled with romance, ghosts, shape shifters, soul searching, and time travel. When my sister and I discover that we are indeed very powerful witches, we go on a magical journey to find out who we really are and how to use our powers and fulfill our destiny. Cats turn into humans, we raise the dead. Life is very exciting when you are a witch.

3. How does the series compare to the Witches of East End book?

The show is based on Melissa de la Cruz’s novel. I read it before we started filming and absolutely love it. The spirit and heart of the book and the essence of the characters is in the series. Melissa has been so very supportive of the show and she’s delightful!

4. What are some similarities and differences between you and your character Ingrid?

I definitely relate to Ingrid’s journey. We both grew up in small towns, and I moved to New York City by myself when I was 17, so I know how it feels to be out of my comfort zone and in an unknown world figuring it all out step by step. I love that Ingrid is not trying to be anyone she’s not. She walks her own path and speaks her own truth. As for differences, well, I’ve never actually raised all the rocks and fish out of a lake using the power of my mind, although I did go fishing with my dad and grandpa when I was little.

5. Will Ingrid lose some of her skepticism over the course of the season?

Yes and she becomes a stronger woman as she discovers the true power of magic and starts to settle into her new life.

6. How will Ingrid’s power affect her relationship with detective Adam?

Love is complicated when you are human and/or witch. Ingrid’s heart is broken open during her journey with Adam and she has a very unique way of dealing with grief which you will see this Sunday.

7. How do you define sexy?

Confident, honest, patient, kind

8. How would you describe Ingrid Beauchamp?

Ingrid is a very old soul and is just waking up to the power inside of her. She always knew she was different and now has the courage to dive in head first and become the person she is truly meant to be. Strength of mind is her greatest gift and she also has a very big heart. She will do anything for the people she loves. And in 1906, look out!  Ingrid was a very different woman in 1906 than she is today.

9. What’s next for Rachel Boston?

We just wrapped the first season of Witches of East End!  I’m hoping to start a new project in a few weeks and very excited about all the adventures ahead. I also really want to adopt a dog. Or a cat. Or a dog and a cat.  Maybe a fish.

10. What are your three simple luxuries?

Reading by candlelight, long baths, cozy bed with way too many pillows
