Tritonal Defines SEXY! An Interview

tritonal 2_raannt

Let’s start by expressing our obsession with Tritonalwe’re obsessed! Their beats are killer and their personalities shine through every drop and rhythm they create!  We had to interview them for our magazine.  The Texan duo took the time to let us in on their musical rollercoaster and chat about their upcoming projects, and killer new “Now Or Never – The Remixes Pt. 1” currently out now!  Check out what Dave and Chad had to say!

tritonal 1_raannt

1. Introduce yourself  in one sentence or less.

Dave – I’m Dave, 25 years old, half of Tritonal and have had a passion for writing music for nearly a decade!

Chad – Hey I’m Chad, one half of Tritonal, a little bit older than Dave and share the same massive passion for writing music and performing!

2. How would you guys define your sound?

There could be many words to describe our sound, but we’d have to say in a few words: Intelligent, fun and emotional.

tritonal 5_raannt

3. What’s your favorite thing about working together?

It can be easy to get lost in a project if you’re constantly listening to the record over and over again, as we do constantly, trying to perfect each song. Having us work together, bouncing off ideas on each other’s heads is a LIFESAVER on a record. It’s having that second pair of ears that we feel works so well!

4. Chad, tell us something we wouldn’t know by looking at Dave. Dave, tell us something we wouldn’t know by looking at Chad.

Chad – Well, Dave’s H I L A R I O U S!   He’s always coming up with funny self-made videos and we love finding idiosyncrasies in situations while on tour.

Dave – For Chad, if you didn’t already know him, you better be aware that you’re in for a ride. This guy is a total riot to be around AND a great dancer!

5. How do you define sexy?

Probably the same as how we would generally define some new audio gear that we’re about to install in the studio. That’s sexy!

tritonal 4_raannt

6. What’s the sexiest City? Hotel? Club? Music Festival? Song?

HAHA – we’ve definitely had the privilege to see so many incredible cities! Well, call us biased, but the sexiest city is Austin, Texas.  The sexiest hotel is the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas along with probably the sexiest festival in all the US – EDC VEGAS!

6. If you could master a different genre of music, which one would it be and why?

For us, we’d love to master down more of what’s behind a Coldplay record – some INCREDIBLE production and also cinematic scoring! There’s so much involved behind scoring and mastering tracks like these and we would love the challenge!

7. Who are your top musicians, dead or alive, to work with and why?

Dave: For me, I’d have to say Chris Martin from Coldplay – I’m always finding myself listening to a Coldplay record. The lyrics, the soundscapes, the melody; they have it all. Another would be Cinematic Orchestra as they have put together some of the most inspiring and intelligent scores I’ve ever heard! Having them on a track of ours’ and writing a melodic score with them would be a dream!

tritonal 3_raannt

8. What’s next for Tritonal?

Well, there’s a lot coming down the pipes for Tritonal as we’re just about to launch our merchandise store, we’re also proud part owners of Enhanced Music with Will Holland and there’s some incredible material in the works for the label. Speaking of it, we also have our very first “Tritonia” compilation CD which is about to come out in December which features SO many amazing artists from the label with some exclusive material as well as some of our own.  But as for us, we’re about to head to Australia for the Stereosonic tour for a couple weeks and WE ARE READY!!

9. What are your three simple luxuries?

Dave – For me, I’d have to say working out, video gaming and every so often a day off to enjoy a hike and dinner with my wife.

DJ Mike Candys is Bitter-Sweet Indulgence! An Interview

dj mike candys 1_raannt

DJ Mike Candys has created an identity that goes beyond his happy-face yellow mask.  It’s an identity that’s filled with energy, passion, and music…really more like very passionate energetic music.  The killer DJ recently released a big room track that is set to take over the sets of many. During his busy schedule of touring and working on a new album he took the time to chat with us about what’s next, his current music, and what shapes his sound into what we all love the most… crazy dance beats!  Check out what Mike Candys had to say:

 dj mike candys 2_raannt

1. Introduce yourself using five words or less.

Short, Playful, Bitter, Sweet

2. When did you realize you wanted to be in the electronic music industry?

I started “producing” my first electronic music when I was 13; I recorded single tracks that I programmed on my home computer and dubbed them with two tapedecks while adding more and more tracks. I didn’t think about Industry then, but I knew that one day I wanna do that for my living.

3. How do you define your sound?

It’s a mix between very pop-styled melodies and dance beats. I always try get to the point or “core” of the track as soon as possible in an arrangement.

Thomas Buchwalder

4. T-Rex is a killer track.  What inspired it?

Of course I was inspired by the current EDM Bigroom/Festival sound. I just wanted to do a really big sounding track. All the sounds needed to be big. Then I thought of something big & powerful  for the “lyrics” and I came up with one of the biggest and most powerful animals ever… First I wanted to call the track “Godzilla” but in the end I liked “T-Rex” even better.

5. How do you define sexy?

The combination of “innocent”,”seductive” and “dirty”

6. What’s the sexiest City? Hotel? Club? Music Festival? Song?

No idea

dj mike candys 4_raannt

7. Walk us through your creative possess.  What are some things you always/never do when creating a new track?

I always start with a melody that I play on the piano. I play it for 20min and change it slightly so it becomes what I want it to have. If I remember the melody the next day, it’s a good one. I hardly ever listen to what my A&Rs say I have to do.

8. What three musicians, dead or alive, would you want to work with and why?

W.A.Mozart: the master of fantastic catchy melodies with a pure genius behind it.

Bingo Players: since I’m working as a DJ I always had and have their tracks in my set, I like the way they produce and compose their tracks

Madonna: Since I started producing electronic music, I had the idea on my mind, that one day I wanna work with her.

9. What’s next for Mike Candys?

When I’m at home, I’m always working in my studio on new productions, I hope to be able to release an album in 2014, but being on tour constantly doesn’t leave too much time for the studio work.

dj mike candys 5_raannt

10. What are your three simple luxuries?

– I normally don’t set an alarm in the morning. I get up when I feel ready for the day

– Whenever possible I just go on a short holidays for of couple of days

– I’m too lazy to switch my mobile phone to WiFi when I’m in a hotel, so I got huge bills for the data-roaming connections when I’m on tour.

Fedde Le Grand Has Soul For Sure! An Interview!

fedde le grand interview 1_raannt

Fedde Le Grand is known throughout the world for his incredible ability to mix, create, and capture musicals beats meant for the music world to love and praise.  The reknown DJ connects with his fans by taking them on a ride filled with musical magic, throbbing beats, and inspiration for genres all across the musical board.  He took time from his busy schedule to chat with us and let us know the secrets behind the beats!

fedde le grand interview 2_raannt

1. Introduce yourself in 7 words or less.

Fedde Le Grand, real name. Dutch Producer.

2. What is something about you we wouldn’t know by looking at you?

I’m not sure about looking at me! Perhaps what you wouldn’t know about Fedde Le Grand is the amount of different styles I’m into and that influence my music. I’ve been into every genre you could pretty much imagine, from hip-hop through to deep house, electro, techno, Detroit Techno – music is a journey and an experience and over the years I’ve been very happy to delve into every part of it.

3. How were you introduced to the world of DJs?

From growing up in Netherlands – its unavoidable, it’s woven into our culture. I used to listen to a lot of dance music on the radio growing up, and started DJing when I was still at school. Initially I was into hip-hop music but gradually became more immersed into the world of house because the sound just fitted better with me, it was more my kind of flow and when I was mixing, the sounds felt more natural to me.

4. What are your top three favorite things about being world known DJs?

The travelling is incredible and then the food, cultures that go with it. Seeing so many different places and meeting new people is something a DJ travelling the world should savor as lots of people will never get to experience it to the degree we do.

5. What music festivals are you most excited about this year and why?

Its nearing the end of an incredible festival year actually…I’ve just come off the back of Sunburn in India that was an amazing show. I have Mysteryland Chile coming which is going to be equally great, plus Green Valley in Brazil which I’m sure you know has been voted the #1 club in the world by DJ Mag and for very good reason. It’s an incredible venue, the vibe is unbeatable and of course it’s full of Brazilians and the DEFinitely like to party!

fedde le grand interview 4_raannt

6. If you could work with any 3 DJ/Musician, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

Ah it’s got to be MJ (Michael Jackson) man – I have been a huge fan all my life. I’m not sure if I would take on one of his tracks because they are perfect as they are, but to work with him would be insane.

The modern day equivalent is perhaps Justin Timberlake or Janelle Monae, from a slightly different angle. They would be a pleasure to work with as I love their music.

7. In your opinion, who is the best musician live vs. in studio?

Again, Michael Jackson…he always will be.

8. How do you define sexy?

A really good disco or soul track.

9. What do you think is the sexiest city? Hotel? Club? Festival? Body part?

Haha – good question…but a hard one. Festivals for me are just such a unique experience, when you go to them the vibe is electric, I think you could definitely call it sexy especially when there are so many pretty girls out there!  Tomorrowland, Mysteryland, EDC, Electric Zoo, Ultra Music Festival of course, Balaton Sound out in Hungary, they really are getting better and better with every year.

10. What are the 3 things you can’t travel without?

Headphones, Laptop and Speakers.

fedde le grand interview 5_raannt

11. How is your career different today than last year?

I think its just progressing the way I want it to. With tracks like Where We Belong I am looking into more and more styles, with different production techniques.

12. What other genre of music would you like to master and why?

Disco and soul, for sure.

13. What advice would you give to an aspiring DJ?

Don’t get distracted by all the stuff that goes with success…hard work is the most important focus and not the rest.

14. What’s next for Fedde Le Grand?

I am releasing Where We Belong on 23rd December worldwide so work at the moment is getting that to where I want it.

15. What are three of your simple luxuries?

Going home, chilling and seeing friends. When you’re on the road they are luxuries you need to enjoy and not take for granted.

DJ Henry Fong Stays Up Til the Sun Comes Up…An Interview!

henry fong 1_raannt

Meet Henry Fong… a new killer DJ with the talent of weaving big-room progressive beats with electro-house sound,  launching him as one of the best new acts around.  Fong’s music has seen support from Hardwell, Avicii, Armin Van Buuren, Calvin Harris, Knife Party, Bingo Players, Tommy Trash, and the list keeps growing.  His killer new track “Hot Steppa” is filled with room filling beats, sensual tropical flavor, and a fresh EDM vibe making us want to keep the track on repeat! We had the chance to chat with Henry and learn more about his musical journey and passion for what’s to come next.

henry fong 2_raannt

1. Introduce yourself in 5 words or less:

Outgoing, active, ADD, passionate, prankster

2. When did you realize you wanted to be in the music industry?

I DJ’d a ton in college, but it wasn’t until my music started getting support from other DJs that I started to realize it could be a reality. The past few months have been unreal & I can’t thank my fans enough for their support!

3. What is your favorite thing about creating new music?

I really focus on making music that’s fresh and unique and hopefully it’s able to make a long lasting impression. I think my favorite part is playing a new track in front of a crowd for the first time, though. It’s a pretty amazing experience!

4. Walk us through your creative proses, what are some of your rituals when you’re making new music?

First I think of the overall idea. Like for “Hot Steppa”, which I produced with Mike Hawkins & Toby Green, I really wanted to incorporate some reggae influences. That was a really cool project as we each brought something to the table and bounced ideas around constantly. Those guys are such good producers, I really loved working with them on the track! But yeah, I think once you have the concept/idea of what you want to make, the rest is just filling it up and looking for sounds to use. I also pace back and forth in a room next door to where I’m producing with the loop playing over and over to see how it sounds from far away. It gives you this different perspective on it how it sounds.

 henry fong 2_raannt

5. What’s the sexiest City? Hotel? Club? Music Festival? Song?

Haha, that’s a tough one! It’s probably somewhere in Brazil or something.

6. Which 3 musicians, dead or alive, do you respect the most and why?

I’d have to say Prodigy, The Beatles, and Dr. Dre. I listened to these guys a lot growing up and they’ve all really influenced my music in one way or another.

7. What advice would you give to an aspiring musician?

You have to stay focused and dedicated. If you aren’t up until the sun comes up a few times, you’re not working hard enough!

8. What’s next for Henry Fong?

I’ve got a new track that just released on Spinnin called “Hot Steppa” with Mike Hawkins & Toby Green. I’ve also got an official remix for Zedd’s “Stay The Night” out next week. There’s a ton of really great stuff lined up, too, but you’ll just have to wait and see!

9. What are your three simple luxuries?

That’s easy: the beach, wifi, and good food!

DJ Quintino Brings Us to Another World…An Interview!

quintino 2013 1_raannt

EDM is all about evolution; the change from old to new and back again.  Quintino has the magic touch of creating new sounds and beats that feel fresh and unheard while leaving our ears wanting more.  Over the course of his career, this young DJ has worked with the likes of Tiesto and Afrojack.  He has performed at the most attended music festivals and has fans all across the world, all the while continuing to impress us with the freshness of his music, his excitement with every set, and the humbleness that makes him the person behind the DJ personality.  Quintino took some time to chat with us in the midst of his crazy music life to show us what truly makes him the DJ evolving with the times.

Quintino 2013 2_raannt

1. Introduce us to Quintino in 7 words or less?

Energetic always giving 100% with a smile.

2. You’ve been making music since you were 18.  How has electric music change throughout your career as a DJ/Producer?

For me it all started in Holland, when the hype was so big for the EDM in Holland .. so we made the music that was hot back in the time. But everything changes really fast, and as you can see the quality of all the tracks are way better and there are way more producers/djs nowadays which is a good thing. So you have to improve yourself over and over!

quintino 2013 3_raannt

3. Define your sound to us.  How do you set yourself apart from other DJs?

Trying to be refreshing every time and not doing the same thing over and over. I want my tracks to have a lot of energy but always with a twist to a new sound. Sometimes that’s really hard. But with Epic for example that really worked out.

4. What is your drink of choice and why?

Alcohol is Grey Goose because it’s the best vodka and no hangover! Non alcohol is apple juice and I really don’t know why I just like it.

5. What are three things we wouldn’t know by looking at you?

I love soccer games and I played it myself for a long time.  I eat a lot of sushi.  You can wake me up for that. I always buy new socks.

6. How does it feel to work with huge DJs like Tiesto and Afrojack?

Thats amazing. I was so honored that Tiesto put me at the DJ Mag as breakthrough artist! And with Afrojack we started as friends and when we tour we tour as friends.  That’s a really good thing.

quintino 2013 4_raannt

7. What are some of your rituals when producing/mixing tracks?

Standing up every 15 minutes to do something.  I like to work late at night when everything around me is quiet and there are no distractions.

8. If you could work with any three musicians, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

That’s easy! Michael Jackson for sure. Biggest pop star ever and I would let him sing on some new EDM music.  Sia.  I think she is one of the best vocalists of the world, loving all the tracks she has done. Usher is the last one but already a big fan from when I was young till now.

9. If you had to master a different genre of music, which one would it be and why?

Hip hop! I really love the nasty dry beats, especially the ones from the Neptunes from back in the time.

10. How do you define sexy?

If music brings you to another world and you feel in top of the world!

quintino 2013_5

11. What is the sexiest city? Hotel? Club? Song? DJ? Place to kiss?

Miami // W hotel // XS Las Vegas // Fish Go Deep – Cure and the Cause // DJ Miss Nine // neck

12. When touring, what are the three things you always have to have with you?

Laptop , phone and fresh new socks.

13.  What would be the name of the soundtrack for your life?

Sky is the Limit

quintino 2013 6_raannt

14. What’s next for Quintino?

A lot of exciting stuff coming up and I’m full of energy.

15. What are your three simple luxuries?

A lot of love from my family even though I don’t see them a lot.  Skype and complimentary water in the hotel rooms hahahahahahahaha!

1.  Introduce yourself in 7 words or less.

20 years old with a passion.

2. What do you think sets you apart from other DJs?

I think it’s the diversity of genres, a lot of personal edits and very quick transitions – I’m trying not to keep one track playing for longer than 2 mins, keeping the set as much dynamic as it can be. Also, I don’t plan the stuff at all, so you can expect everything when you come to see me playing again.

3. Which 3 musicians, dead or alive, do you respect the most and why?

Thomas Bangalter, Michael Jackson and Porter Robinson – their music was, and still is, a huge source of inspiration for me. I would recommend them and their stuff to everyone who’s looking for some sort of influence, no matter if they are a musicians, or any other kind of artists. It’s just gonna work.

4. How do you define sexy?

Smart, good looking, creating desires.

5. What’s the sexiest City? Hotel? Club? Music Festival? Song?

– City: Miami

Hotel: The Lalit, Delhi (India)

Club: Hoxton (Toronto, Canada) / Voyeur (San Diego, US)

– Music Festival: Tomorrowland (BE)

– Song: Mat Zo ft. Eyes That Lie – Hurricane (Album Mix)

6. Who has been your favorite musical artist you’ve worked with?

To be honest, I’ve never had an opportunity to sit with anyone physically in one studio yet, but I’ve done some collabs based on sending the sounds back n forth over the internet with really talented vocalists like Miss Palmer or Amba Shepherd, so yeah, they are my fav so far.

7. If you were on death row for murder by beauty, what would you want as your last meal?

Sushi and a bottle of Jack.

8. What do you believe will be the next, big musical trend?

In the era of internet and viral stuff, it’s kinda tricky to predict the next big thing as it can blow up right in your face at the least expected moment. Examples? Harlem Shake and Gangam Style. The people are setting the trend based on the worldwide reach of each song, style, you name it.

9. What’s next for Tom Swoon?

Hell of a collaborations and singles being made as we speak, can’t reveal the names I’m working with yet but it’s all big stuff ahead. So just for that I’m taking a short break from touring life and focus completely on new music. Apart from that, my monthly Superheroes Podcast will get through a huge makeover soon, so stay tuned.
