Frankie Sandford of The Saturdays…THE Interview!

frankie1

Before Chasing the Saturdays aired on E!, we had never heard of Frankie Sandford.  We had somehow completely missed out on the phenomenon that is The Saturdays, what some might consider this generation’s Spice Girls, before their show began airing in the United States.  As soon as we began watching Chasing the Saturdays, the reality show following their crossover from the United Kingdom to the United States, we fell in love with these girls. Mollie wowed us with her blonde locks and upbeat personality.  Una tantalized us with her beautiful family and super, sexy, red hair.  Vanessa enticed us with her incredible voice and hilarious sense of humor.  Rochelle rocked and intrigued us with her intense body and incredible voice.  And then of course there was Frankie! We instantly became obsessed with her great sense of style, amazing voice and unique personality, making her an instant fan favorite! Check out what she told us about living life in the spotlight and life behind the scenes of what is sure to be one of the greatest girl groups of all time!

1. Introduce yourself in 7 words or less.

That’s an easy one actually, most people call me “sunshine and showers” because I’m either really upbeat or quite introspective.

2. How were you introduced to the music industry?

Myself and Rochelle were actually in a band together from the age of 12 called S Club Juniors, so I’ve been in this industry awhile.

3. How do you think music has changed throughout your career?

Music has changed quite a few times during my career. Pop was massive at the start then went away for a while and was replaced by R&B. SO happy that pop seems to be back once again.

4. Tell us about your experience filming Chasing the Saturdays?

It was surreal. We’ve filmed 2 reality shows back in the UK before, but we’ve never had such a massive crew before. Luckily they were all lovely and became our LA family. We often forgot they were even there, which means we’re a bit scared to watch the show back!

frankie35. As a musical group, do you ever disagree on creative ideas?

We’re 5 girls so of course we all have our own opinions on styling, videos, artwork, music – pretty much everything! But I think it really helps – everyone has great ideas so it’s always a discussion, not a disagreement.

6. What’s your favorite thing about each girl on the group?

I love how optimistic Mollie is, she keeps everyone upbeat. Rochelle is the band’s big sister and is always on hand to give advice. Vanessa is such a laugh, if you’re looking for a party, she’s your girl. Una knows a little bit about EVERYTHING!

frankie67. What are some creative things you do to keep your songwriting fresh and interesting?

We are lucky enough to write with different songwriters across different genres, so we bounce off with each other which always keeps things fresh.

8. Who are the three biggest musical inspirations and why?

I love Taylor Swift, Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton

9. If you could work with any musician, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

It would be amazing to collaborate with Rihanna.

10. How do you define sexy?

Sexy is being confident in your own skin.

11. What do you think is the sexiest City? Hotel? Club? Store? Musical artist? Place to Kiss?

I think Paris is the ultimate sexy city, even if it’s cliché. Rihanna is the sexiest woman in music – she’s fearless. Zara is a great shop for affordable, sexy clothes. they do the best fitting blazers.

12. Who is your favorite designer and what is your signature perfume?

Rachel Gilbert as I’ve worn one of her dresses for pretty much every red carpet we’ve done. Bvlgari its just a fresh clean smell not too over powering.

frankie413. What advice would you give to an artist trying to make it in the industry?

Practice, practice, practice. Get out there and do as many shows as you can, whether it’s in front of 5 or 500 people.

14. What’s next for Frankie Sandford?

Things have been going well in America so far, so we hope to go back there this year. We will also hopefully be going to Europe and Australia for promo, which would be awesome

15. What are your three simple luxuries?

A Sunday roast in a local pub, quality time with my family and friends, and staying at home with the dogs in front of the fire!

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars: The Cast Interviews!

We are die hard RuPaul’s Drag Race Fans! It has been a complete honor to have been able to interview the cast members from every season thus far, and to have done several individual interviews with some of our favorites! Once again, we were able to interview several of the cast and get an inside scoop into the minds of the girls…this time, all of them All-Stars! Good luck girls!

Chad Michaels

1. What three attributes qualify you to be an “all-star”?

I’m the only Bitch in the cut over-qualified for the title of “All Star” LOL! I’m a seasoned professional in the prime of my career with the talent, experience and temperament to be the “Queen of All Queens”! Mother Dust rules Her Kingdom Fiercely and Fairly!!

2. What will we see from you that we didn’t see in your previous season?

I think viewers will see me be a little more reckless and cavalier in “All Stars.” I went into the competition feeling confident and ready to show off some of the different facets of my craft.  I’m hoping my fans like what I bring to the runway!!  It’s going to be SICKENING!!

3. Who is your biggest competition and why?

I think my biggest competition in “All Stars” is going to be Raven.  I’ve known Raven since before she did drag and I have watched her blossom into a fierce queen.  Raven holds a top 3 spot in her season and I took a top 3 spot in RPDR4! We are both competitors who almost made it and I can promise we are both out to take the crown and title of “Queen of all Queens” on RPDR All Stars!!

Nina Flowers

1. What three attributes qualify you to be an “all-star”?

My personality, my looks and my ambition.

2. What will we see from you that we didn’t see in your previous season?

I had a good long race in season 1, so you guys have seen what I’m about. I guess the fact that I’ve already experienced the pressures of reality TV gives me a better understanding on how to play the game. With that said, I bring much more confidence to the competition.

3. Who is your biggest competition and why?

At this point it’s anybody’s game. All the entertainers are amazing and really polished, but based on my personal opinion, I would say Raven.
I love her looks, her persona and her attitude. She is one fierce bitch.

Alexis Mateo

1. What three attributes qualify you to be an “all-star”?

Personality, talent and passion! I’m a real Drag queen – you always remember me at the end of the day!

2. What will we see from you that we didn’t see in your previous season?

I have worked on my look and my body, and I think I’m in the best moment of my life – I’m ready to have fun and be sickening.

3. Who is your biggest competition and why?

My biggest competition is ME – I had to prove myself that I’m a great drag queen. Now I have to prove myself that I’m a superstar!

JuJuBee

1. What three attributes qualify you to be an “all-star”?

I believe that I have the fighting power, heart and dedication to be inducted into the drag hall of fame. I belong there!

2. What will we see from you that we didn’t see in your previous season?

Tears? Hahahahahahahahaha. Watch and you’ll find out!

3. Who is your biggest competition and why?

Raven. That bitch is sickening! Flawless to the Gods and I can’t even start with those lips, girr. She has it, but I want the title so I will be fighting!

Raven:

1. What three attributes qualify you to be an “all-star”?

Well, I believe I have many attributes that qualify me to be an All Star. I will say to sum it up, I do possess the 4 that Ru and the judges are looking for: Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent. It doesn’t just come down to being a beautiful and fierce queen…there is a lot more to it. There is a lot that make up who I am, as a person…not just my drag.

2. What will we see from you that we didn’t see in your previous season?

For starters…I have hair now. I also lost about 25 lbs since the last time I was there. But, I do show a bit more vulnerability this time around.

3. Who is your biggest competition and why?

OH GEEZ…I would have to say Nina. She is one hell of a queen!!!

Thanks Girls!

Sharon Needles Has Balls! THE Interview!

Sharon Needles might possibly be our favorite drag queen of all time.  Why? Maybe it’s because she drinks PBR straight out of the tall boy can.  Maybe it’s because she’s cocky and humble in the same breath.  But most likely it’s because we’re so drawn into this character we’ve never seen before, because Sharon Needles is definitely that…a character.  Although she’s the high priestess of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 4, winning the capital crown of America’s Next Drag Queen Superstar, she is more like Carrie winning the prize of homecoming queen.  And in the same fashion as the movie, when warned, “they’re all gonna laugh at you“, look who’s laughing now folks…

1. What 6 words would you use to describe yourself?

Overrated, overpaid, artistic, nervous, drunk, humble.

2. You¹ve spoken in past interviews about getting started in drag at the age of 15.  Tell us about the very first show you ever did?

It can easily be Googled. No one ever asks about the second show. Or third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, or ninth.

3. Why is there beauty in flaw?

American beauty is based on lies. Though I live in a fantasy world I tend to be attracted to the truth. The second things make me uncomfortable I want them. Anytime I see lipstick on women’s teeth, within 30 seconds I wish it were mine.

4. Tell us about your relationship with Alaska.  What real or fictional couple are you most like?

Lucy and Ricky’s hot tempers and innocent mishaps.

5. We love your art because it laughs and resists in a time where pop culture has taken a main stage.  What do people not understand about you that you¹re trying to communicate?

I purposely take imagery, language and fashion as a way to make an audience feel uncomfortable. The same way they connect with me, I take their dark issues and force them into spotlights. I’m like a tiger in a zoo, no real harm can be done, but you enjoy the entertainment of fear.

6. You¹ve said anti-bullying is your platform.  Tell us about your experiences being bullied growing up (and feel free to call anyone out).

I don¹t give notoriety, press, or fame to those who made my life a living hell. I¹m the fucking star, let¹s talk about me.

7. What advice would you give a teenager who is being bullied?

There is no advice you can give to someone who is becoming an adult. It¹s a dog eat dog world, survival of the fittest, let the bullshit make you stronger, I¹m not designed to be a role model, I just wanted to be a model.

8. Who are your 5 all-time favorite drag queens?

Divine, RuPaul, Leigh Bowery, Jayne County, Pee-wee Herman

 9. If you could only listen to 3 CD¹s for the rest of your life and they couldn¹t be mixed, what would they be?

Gary Glitter: Glitter, The Move: Shazam, Britney Spears: FemmeFatale

10. Tell us 3 things we wouldn¹t know by looking at you?

I’m a vegetarian. I have a huge ego with low esteem. I’m an alcoholic.

11. What does your family think about Sharon Needles?

My parents always wanted the best for me. They are open-minded people, but they were just worried about my longevity in this volatile career of show business. My mother, who was my biggest enemy, is now my number one fan.

 12. What does Sharon Needles have that Aaron doesn¹t?

Balls.

13. Do you think RuPaul¹s Drag Race is a fair representation of drag?

RuPaul’s Drag Race admits the viewer a backstage pass to the humanity, humility and absurdity of drag. Drag queens are usually perceived as celebrity clowns, and RuPaul¹s Drag Race is the only program allowing fans to see that we’re not only beautiful creatures of the night, but we have beating hearts as well.

14. People have said that you are a Satanist and a racist.  How would you respond to those allegations?

As a self-educated socially conscious artist, I use shock imagery and language to reflect the true demons of our society.  I take the darkest issues and put them into the brightest spotlights.  I don’t believe in God, and I don’t believe in Satan, I believe in myself and I believe in you. When I say Hail Satan, it’s my juxtaposition to the valley girl saying Oh My God!  I’m no fucking valley girl. And thank you for your investigative reporting.

15. You have commented on an appreciation for Andy Warhol and that generation of The Factory.  How do you integrate that era into your art?

Andy Warhol always said everybody would be world famous for 15 minutes, well I got 15 episodes. Andy Warhol reminds me that fame is art, and art is dead, and so am I. Let¹s all die.

16. You¹ve said that your act is about bringing dark issues into the spotlight.  What are some dark issues you¹d like to bring into the light?

In the words of Andy Warhol, no comment. My art speaks for itself, I don¹t answer for it in interviews.

17. You seem completely educated and appreciative of a cultural artistic underbelly. To you who are some of the main contributors of this movement?

John Waters, Amanda Lepore, Jayne County, GG Allin, Robert Mapplethorpe, Terry Richardson, RuPaul, Elvira.

18. Who are your 3 favorite fashion designers?

Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Alexander McQueen

3 Favorite movies?

Return of the Living Dead, Death Becomes Her, and The Wonderful and Wild Whites of West Virginia.

3 Favorite television shows?

Married With Children, Roseanne, The Golden Girls

3 Favorite books?

Sarah by J.T. LeRoy, A Confederacy of Dunces, The Dirt (True Story of Motley Crue)

Favorite drink?

PBR

Favorite beer?

PBR

Favorite place to have sex?

My bed at home, you freak.

Favorite place to trick or treat?

Shut up, this question is RuTarded.

19. What do the ghosts whisper to you?

I don¹t believe in ghosts, but my conscious whispers a lot to me, which is nobody¹s business, and if you heard it you¹d be reaching for the gun.

20. What are your three simple luxuries?

Alcohol, sleep, and cat.

Be Yourself.  Be Fearless.  Be Your Own Unexpected Luxury!

Phi Phi O’Hara is Phucking Phierce! THE Interview!

We just kind of fell in love with her right away.  She was such a nasty, snippy bitch that we found ourselves digging beneath the surface, trying to to find the compassionate soul beneath the layers of makeup and wigs which revealed the genuine Phi Phi O’Hara on RuPaul’s Drag Race.  And it was definitely there.  We saw it in her defensiveness.  We saw it in her absolute determination and drive.  We saw it when she spoke about her distant relationship with her father.  But most importantly, we saw it in her talent.  Phi Phi O’Hara has that natural talent for propelling the spotlight onto herself.  In a way, she, like many of her fellow contestants on RuPaul’s Drag Race, became underdogs, each representing a different type of person.  And that’s probably what we liked most about her…the fact that beneath the glitter and glam making her the Mean Girl of RuPaul’s Drag Race, she really exudes an incredible amount of confidence.  To us..that is totally, phucking sexy! Did we mention he’s super hot out of drag…yeah!

1. Define yourself using five words.

Independent, Beautiful, Determined….hmmm….Snaggle and BITCH!

2. When and where was Phi Phi O¹Hara, the entertainer, born?

I am originally from San Antonio, Texas where I went by the name of Phoenix O’hara.  I decided I needed a bigger city and moved to Chicago where I met Dida Ritz.   She would call me Phi Phi for short and it just stuck!

3. Do you think you should have won RuPaul¹s Drag Race?

Of course!!!!! Haha! But I think Sharon is something the show has never seen nor has it touched an audience with her demographics, so it was smart to elect her as the winner. Am I mad I lost? Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeck No! Besides, in many reality TV shows and competitions, the runner up and others are typically more famous.  Hahahaha and become WAY more successful!

4.  Looking back, would you have done anything different on the show?

Not at all.  I tell people to never hide who they are.  On the show I was pegged as the alpha omega bitch, which I am TOTALLY nothing like.  However, I am a hungry, determined bitch who wanted to win and there should be no shame in that!

5.  What do you think makes you one of the best drag entertainers?

I don’t think I am one of the best.  I think I am a very good one but I have met some amazing entertainers in my life that just haven’t had their time in the spotlight yet.  I think what makes a great entertainer is being able to put on a show and make it look of quality.  I think a lot of girls just throw on a cheap little dress and prance around on stage.  I feel when someone puts time and energy into a performance then the audience will be captivated, happy, and most of all entertained.

6.  Who are your 3 all-time favorite female impersonators?

All time 3?……I love Chevelle Brooks, Asia O’hara and RuPaul!!!!! (Couldn’t Forget that haha!)

7. Who are three women who inspire your art?

My mom, my sister and now my beautiful new niece, Cecilia.  My mom and sister because they are both strong individuals who go after what they want in life.  My niece inspires me to be an entertainer and an uncle she can say when show grows up..”Wow My uncle is amazing!”

8. What did your family think about your being on the show?

My mom and sister FLIPPED; probably more than I did haha.  They love that I went on TV and shared my story and really went after what I wanted.  I still haven’t talked to my dad and because I was on the show his parents(my grandparents) will no longer talk to me.

9. What has life been like since the show aired?

I knew being on a TV show I would have a slight taste of fame, but the word slight isn’t at all close enough.  I walk anywhere and everywhere and there are fans! I travel so much now and get to see so many places.  I get to produce music with some of the best producers and I got to move to my dream city of New York City!  I tell myself every day that I deserve this but to this day (almost a year after the show) it hasn’t fully kicked in that I am a reality TV star….PS., I get free things wherever I go, whether it be shopping, food, hotels…..YAY!!!!!!! Hahahaha

10. What would be a theme song for your life?

I have been touring with Nicki Minaj’s “Marilyn Monroe” song which really spoke to me with her lyrics.  It  basically says I am not perfect, I never will be, but take me or leave me, this is who I am!

11. If you could only listen to 3 CD¹s for the rest of your life, what would they be?

CD’s?!?! I don’t own any CDs now…….I would bring an iPOD duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! lol – but if I HAD to chose and don’t laugh…..but Mariah Carey – #1s, Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday Reloaded, and probably Rascall Flatts – Melt.

12. How do you define sexy?

A Naked Latin Man!!!!  Also known as my boyfriend Mikhael! Yum!

13. What is the sexiest city? Club? Hotel? Drag queen? Male celebrity? Female celebrity? Place to have sex?

lol weird…..um….city, Miami for sure!!!!, Club & Hotel…..whichever one I am in!, Drag Queen…PHI PHI O’HARA, Male Celebrity – Christiano Renaldo! YUMM….Female Celebrity -Megan Fox….Place to have Sex….well I am sure Sharon already said cemetery, so I will say in Church! Oh god….Oh God!

14.  Tell us about your boyfriend and what makes him the one.

Because he is great in bed!  Haha! He is amazing he really respects what I do.  He supports me and really pushes me to become the best at anything I do! I am so happy I met him and get to spend my time with such a breathtaking individual!

15. What are 3 things about you we wouldn¹t know by looking at you?

I am CHEAP.  I hate to spend money and I often get into disputes with my friends about why $3.00 is too expensive when I can find it for $1.75 elsewhere.  Haha…..I do a lot of crazy voices when I am bored.  I just make up these weird characters and won’t stop.  I hate seafood and salad……blegh!

16. What are three things Phi Phi O¹Hara always has on her when she travels?

1) Merchandise – So buy it!!!!!!!!! lol 2) Picture of my boyfriend 3) of course my phone.

17. Based on your experience, how real is reality television?

HA……..as real as Chad Michael’s face. Just joking!

18. Who do you think will be the final three on RuPaul¹s All Star Drag Race and who do you think will or should win?

I would say, JuJuBee, Raven and maybe Chad because she is SUCH a professional. I would like to see JuJu or Raven take it.  I was a huge fan of them before the show and now they are really close sisters and genuinely nice, helpful and caring people!

19. What would you like to have accomplished in five years?

It is weird that so many people have asked me this because I have seriously accomplished all my goals and dreams.  I guess the only thing left would be to finally put out my music!!! It has taken forever because I am always on tour and I never have time to get into the studio or make my music video….BUT IT IS COMING!!!!

20. What are your three simple luxuries?

Traveling, car service…haha…and I love great food!

Project Runway’s Althea Harper!

We are huge fans of Project Runway.  We’ve watched every season and every episode while rooting for our favorites from the sidelines on our couch.  The premiere of Season 10, the newest installment of the reality show, will air Thursday, July 19th on the Lifetime network.  In the past, our obsession with reality television’s elite fashion show has allowed us to interview famed Project Runway judge Nina Garcia and now we’ve had the honor of interviewing our all-time favorite, Season 6 runner up Althea Harper.  Maybe we love her because she’s a native Midwesterner like ourselves or maybe we love her because she interned for two of our fashion idonl, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.  Either way, Althea Harper has proven she’s a powerful force in the fashion industry.  When we met her, we were absolutely blown away.  Although we expected her to be tall, she literally towered, almost like a skyscraper, above everyone else and definitely commanded respect and fascination.  Her soft nature interwoven with her strong opinion made us even bigger fans, wanting to interview her and find out more about what made her so capable of being strong, confident and not afraid to be sexy!

1. Introduce us to Althea Harper: the designer, the everyday women, and the newlywed.

I am a woman’s wear contemporary designer originally from the Midwest but now spend my time alternating between NYC and CT.  I have a strong passion for what I do and I truly believe that what a woman wears dictates how she feels and therefore what she accomplishes.  I am also a newlywed that loves my husband, friends and family!

2. When did you first know you wanted to become a fashion designer?

I have known that I wanted to be a fashion designer since I realized that there was an occupation that allowed you to draw clothes (of course that is about 5% of what I do). I love that you can use both sides of your brain- I can be creative but I also have to understand how to run a business.

3. What are three things we wouldn’t know by looking at you?

Three thing that you wouldn’t know by looking at me is that I LOVE pizza- I could probably eat it for every meal and I crave it all the time- unfortunately I am gluten intolerant and not supposed to eat it but it is my weakness.  I completed in the Junior Olympics for track and field on my AAU track team and I’ve been one of the girls painted in latex at a Playboy party  – that always surprises people but I swear its more coverage then a bikini!

4. As you become more successful as a designer, who are the top three designers you look up to and why?

My best experience was working for Alexander McQueen- not only for his talent but how he treated people.  I admire Zac Posen for the same reason.  I love that Rachel Roy is not only a great designer but also style icon.

5. What kind of woman wears Althea Harper?

Strong, confident and not afraid to be sexy!

6. How do you keep a fresh look in fashion and from where do you pull inspiration?

I pull inspiration from anything- I never know what is going to inspire me the next season. Staying fresh is following your creativity and being aware of trends but not living by them.

7. Season 6 of Project Runway seems so long ago. Tell us about your day to day experience of what the show and the competition were like?

The show was very intense and it was 7 days a week 24 hours a day.  We really didn’t get any time off.  We also usually slept less then 5 hours a night. It really was sewing and designing all day long. The days we had eliminations could also go till 2am.

8. Out of all the contestants on that season, who do you still keep in touch with?

I love Ra’mon and Christopher is very supportive.  I keep in touch with Malvin as well and run into Carol Hannah and Nicholas in NYC.

9. Tim Gunn seems, in the show, to be a great mentor for the designers. How much time do you guys actually spend with him and how helpful is he?

We spent a fair amount of time with him and he was a great mentor.  He kept the competition real, and reminded my of a professor.

10. The competition seems to become tougher and tougher each season.  What is something that you think the judges look for in a designer?

The ability to not only design but understand how to construct a garment, stay in trend while still being different and of course it takes a certain type of person who can handle being filmed all the time.

11. We would love to see you on the screen again! Any TV projects in the works?

There are a few.  Can’t give any details though due to contract restrictions…so boring I know!

12.  The new season of Project Run way is about to start – what piece of advice would you give to these new designers?

Stay confident!!  You might not agree with all the judges decisions or have the support you want from the fellow designers but it is important to stay true to yourself!

 13. How do you define sexy?

Confidence

14. What do you believe is the sexiest city in the world? Sexiest hotel? Sexiest club? Sexiest designer?

Sexiest city- Ibiza

Sexiest hotel- The Standard Miami

Sexiest club- XS in Vegas

Sexiest designer – me and Tom Ford

15. In the celebrity world, who would your ideal “muse” be and why?

Penelope Cruz- she is everything! Smart, gorgeous, sexy and talented!

16. For all the brides to be, what are the top 3 dos and don’ts when preparing for your wedding?

1- have no regrets- if u want a low bust line on your dress but are worried what your grandma might think- just do it! ( as long as its not TOO low)! You want to look you best and feel your best do do whatever will make u feel that way – even if it’s not traditional.  I think regret is the worst feeling and the last you want to associate with your wedding day.

2- don’t sweat the small stuff- as long as there is a open bar and a DJ the rest will all just be a bonus! People remember the great time that they had- not the detail of the china.

3- have as many bridesmaids as you want! I had 13!! But they were all special to me and I wouldn’t go back and change a thing- I love that they were all part of my day!!

17. How do you define style and how would someone find or exhibit their own sense of style?

Style is not something you can copy from a magazine- but a feeling and look of how you put all your pieces together. It’s a very individualized thing.

18. When you travel, what are five items you must have with you at all times?

Phone

Sketch book and pencils

Good book

Moisture spray for my skin

A gossip mag (my weakness)

19. To all of the guys and girls, young or old, who dream of being a fashion designer…what is your best piece of advice?

It’s not an easy road but with enough passion you can get through anything!

20. What are three of your simple luxuries?

A great eye cream and moisturizer, my Apple products, and a high quality (ie designer, quality leather, etc) over sized purse.

Be Yourself.  Be Fearless.  Be Your Own Unexpected Luxury.

Ricardo Laguna…THE Interview!

While planning this interview, we thought about titling it “Ricardo Laguna…The Sexy Latino Racer Masters the Old Dirt Road“, but after having interviewed him, we’re not sure that title fits appropriately.  Sure, he’s sexy, he’s Latino and he’s mastered the “old dirt road”…but all together, it sounds a little cliched.  Definitely more cliched than his response to what he hopes to achieve in the next ten years; “I hate to sound cliche, but as long as I get to ride my bike, have my family and good health, and hopefully find true love with a special lady, I don’t think I could ask for much more than that!”  At 30, he appears to have it all: a successful career as a BMX pro, his own television show on MTV’s tr3s bi-cultural station and good looks…all of which make him one of the most eligible bachelors…not to mention Latino bachelors…in the country! But we wanted to find out what makes him tick as he tricks and jumps over tracks…and in his own backyard!

1. Introduce us to Ricardo Laguna.

Ricardo Laguna is a 30 year old kid that came from La Paz, Mexico and used to be a baseball player until his whole family moved to Las Vegas, NV when he was 13 years old. He first picked up a BMX bike for fun and never knew he could make it into a career.

2. You were born and raised in Mexico.  What was your experience like moving to the United States?

It was possibly one of the most difficult things I’ve been through in my life, but at the same time, it was possibly one of the best things that ever happened to me. What I mean by that is – I didn’t speak any English or know the American culture, but I learned about a new lifestyle that I would never have known thanks to moving to Las Vegas.

3. Would you ever move away from Las Vegas?

I don’t see myself moving anytime soon. This city always has something to offer! I can ride my bike year round plus have the winter activities and summer activities, and better yet – who can take a girl on a date to get pizza in New York, go to the top of the Eiffel Tower, and see one of the most amazing water shows at Bellagio all in one night? So far, no city has given Vegas a run for its money.

4. What has been the biggest challenge as an immigrant throughout your career and life in the US?

As I mentioned earlier, I think the language barrier was the biggest challenge first and foremost. To this day, I’m still trying to master the English language. But I think being bilingual has made my life more interesting!

5. You’re very proud of your background and upbringings.  What are some advices you would give to young Hispanic children trying to accomplish their dreams while living in the US?

No matter what you want to achieve in your life – whether it’s being a doctor or a baseball player or even a bike rider – just keep working hard and don’t give up on your goals. Just like any Hispanic person trying to live the American dream, I’m working towards my goals every day. And if I can do it with a little kid’s bike, I know there are plenty of other Latinos who can do the same and more!

6. How were you introduced to the world of BMX?

When I first moved to Las Vegas, I lived in this trailer park and was trying to meet other kids in the neighborhood, so I picked up a mountain bike (not a BMX bike) and I came across these kids who were jumping out of a hole in the desert. Despite the language barrier, I managed to ask them what they were doing and they explained it to me with hand gestures. Little did I know there was more to BMXing than just jumping out of a hole onto flat ground. Later, they took me to a BMX track and explained that it was a legitimate sport and there was a national competition happening that weekend. I don’t remember why, but I never made it. A week or two later, I was coming back from dinner with my family and I saw the lights and I asked my parents to take me there. Once we pulled in to the track, I was like a little kid in a candy store. I saw people in uniforms, lights, music, the crowd, a crazy BMX track where they had obstacles and eight people who raced to the finish. After taking it all in, I looked up at my mom and said “Yo quiero una bici!” The rest is history!

7. What must every dirt bike course have to make it successful?

Ultimately it should be open minded and to come up with creative lines. What I mean by that is – sometimes in dirt jumping math, 2 + 2 doesn’t equal 4, and a jump that seemed impossible at first could turn out to be the most fun! That’s just one of the many reasons why I love riding my bike.

8. You have your own show on MTV Tr3s. Tell us about the show and what is different from other television shows.

I still can’t believe I have my own TV show so please don’t wake me up from this amazing dream! Once I met Wilmer and we were talking about my life, how I never had a hero my family scenario, he pointed out that so many Latino families have dealt with similar challenges and there aren’t too many shows that cater to a bicultural family audience. At first I thought there was no way someone would be interested in what I do since I just ride little kids bikes, but then he mentioned all the things I’ve been through with my family, learning the language, living in a city that everyone wants to visit, trying to have a balance between my American upbringing and my family’s traditional Mexican values, it’s the same issues a lot of Hispanic people in the United States deal with every day.

9. Walk us through a regular day of taping.  How do you start the day and how do you like to finish it?

No day is ever the same besides the fact that I know I’ll be filming anywhere from 12-15 hours a day, just going about my life and living in a city that never sleeps, so that should give you a pretty good idea! You can always tune into the show on MTV Tr3s or watch it online on the tr3s website page for The Ricardo Laguna Project!

10. Since we don’t know much about the BMX world, tell us what we would love about it.

New tricks, bigger jumps, all over the world, and it keeps growing!

11. How does one train for BMX challenges?

The beauty of being in a non-team sport is the more you practice, the more chances you will have to be rewarded. The more riding I do, the more creative I can get at the contests.

12. What’s the one thing that keeps you away from training?

I’m very much a homebody, so Vegas has yet to sidetrack me!

13. You recently just turned 30. What goals would you like to achieve before you turn 40?

I hate to sound cliche, but as long as I get to ride my bike, have my family and good health, and hopefully find true love with a special lady, I don’t think I could ask for much more than that!

14. What is something we wouldn’t know by looking at you?

I love playing the piano, but I don’t know how! I can play a few songs right now, but one day I plan to conquer it!

15. You currently live in Las Vegas.  What are some of the hidden gems the city has?

Not a lot of people know that 20 minutes away from my house I have the lake where I can go wake boarding, cliff jumping and work on my tan! Then in the winter, I only have to drive an hour to be able to snowboard. Plus, Vegas is the city with the most skate parks not only in the United States, but the world. There’s also great hiking at Red Rock. For someone like myself who is an outdoor person, Vegas is the perfect place to be!

16. How do you define sexy?

Fun, outgoing, and positive! Looks don’t last forever, so that’s what’s sexy to me.

17. What do you think is the sexiest City? Hotel? Club? Place to kiss? Place to ride your bike?

If it’s not Vegas, the next best city would be Sydney, Australia. For hotel, I’d say Fontainebleau in Miami. For club, TAO, without a doubt! For place to kiss, there are so many options because Vegas has so many great views – anywhere from the Eiffel Tower to the Stratosphere – but I have yet to try it for myself. For place to ride, that’s a no brainer – definitely my back yard!

18. What was it like going back to the where you were born, La Paz, Mexico?

I’m bummed I don’t get the opportunity to visit La Paz as much as I would like, but I was honored that the government sent me out there to open a dirt park named after me. They had a huge grand opening ceremony and even gave me the key to the city – something I’m still mind blown about. Now I have even more reasons to go back to one of the safest cities in North America that still has a piece of my heart.

19. What’s next for Ricardo Laguna?

The possibilities are endless! And I can tell you – being at the start of my 30s, I’ve got even more that I want to accomplish!

20. What are your three simple luxuries?

Walking out of my door and riding in BMX paradise, year-round activities in Las Vegas and having my family, and not to mention my mom’s amazing cooking only 3 miles away from my doorstep.

Thanks buddy!

Bang Bang! The A-List Dallas! Beautiful and Dirty…Rich!

Once again LOGO TV has spun out an amazing cast of reality characters to fill our television screens and entice us into their melodramatically, gay lives. Although The A-List Dallas has been on for some time, it definitely holds it’s own against the original A-List New York. Even more so in fact because this time, each player is so interesting on their own…or together. After nude pictures of cast member Levi leaked several weeks ago on the internet, the world learned that everything actually is bigger in Texas. This being true we wanted to go past the zipper of truth and find out what is really ticking inside this eclectic group of reality star ingenues…

JAMES

1. What five words would you use to define yourself?

Spontaneous, Passionate, Irresponsible, Loving, Faithful

2. What are the differences between the A-list New York and the A-list Dallas.
There is no comparison, we both live in different worlds.

3. In Dallas, why are you on the A-list and not the D-list?
It’s all about who you know, and maintaining a good relationship with anyone you meet. Relationships with great people lead to great connections, and great connections lead to amazing lives.

4. Describe your other cast members in one word:
Chase: Responsible
Ashley: Spunky
Levi: Charmer
Phillip: Loud
Taylor: Opinionated

5. What do you have that everyone else wants making you a commodity on the A-list?

The most blessed and amazing life I could ever ask for.

6. If you were a book, what would your title be?
Confessions of a Midwestern Gay Man.

LEVI

1. What five words would you use to define yourself?
Truly One-of-a-kind

2. What are the differences between the A-list New York and the A-list Dallas.
The over all tone will be the most obvious difference, I believe “Southern Hospitality” shines brighter than a “New York Attitude”. The NY cast is very entertaining, but I see a lot more diversity in the cast members of Dallas.

3. In Dallas, why are you on the A-list and not the D-list?
I think the biggest quality I poses that really puts me on a level all my own is my ability to get anything done with a good phone call or two. I take a lot of pride pulling things together nobody else can. It is a wicked combination of problem solving skills, juggling a dozen things at a time, a huge network of amazing professionals I have developed over my entire life, and the stubbornness to NEVER take “No” for an answer. When you have the reputation of being the go to guy, people love to stay on your good side.

4. Describe your other cast members in one word:
Chase:Brilliant
James:Young
Ashley:Blond
Phillip:Branded
Taylor:Bat-Shit-Crazy

5. What do you have that everyone else wants making you a commodity on the A-list?
“Just because you are a character, doesn’t mean you have character.” -W. Wolf
I have always had a very intense personality. I have a life long reputation for doing things completely outside of the box, being comfortable in my own skin and always being myself. Everybody wants to be an original, I just always have been.

6. If you were a book, what would your title be?

Get Your Cowboy On; If you aren’t comfortable in your own shoes, try on a pair of boots

TAYLOR

1. What five words would you use to define yourself?
Ambitious, Successful, Outspoken, Christian, Republican

2. What are the differences between the A-list New York and the A-list Dallas.

We are younger, hotter and have less wrinkles!

3. Describe your other cast members in one word:
Chase: Sassy
James: Misunderstood
Ashley: Genuine
Levi: Sexy
Phillip: Trouble-maker
Taylor: HOT

5. What do you have that everyone else wants making you a commodity on the A-list?
Good looks, charm, success and connections to all the decision makers of Dallas.

6. If you were a book, what would your title be?
Grin and Garrett

CHASE

1. What five words would you use to define yourself?
Honest, Blunt, Hard-working, Sassy, Fair

2. What are the differences between the A-list New York and the A-list Dallas.
The A-List Dallas is a show that actually shows true emotions and reality…

3. In Dallas, why are you on the A-list and not the D-list?
I have never once said I am “A-List.” You can call me “Y-List” for all I care…anyways, the people that say they are “A-List” are normally people that so badly want to be something that they are not. They are the insecure, debt-ridden, annoying people you see in a BMW 6 Series drive into an apartment complex, walking up to their 500 square feet rented “studio….” I mean come on….we all know it is true…

4. Describe your other cast members in one word:
James: – messy
Ashley: – sparkly
Levi: – charming
Phillip: – loud
Taylor: – fake

5. What do you have that everyone else wants making you a commodity on the A-list?
Awesome hair

6. If you were a book, what would your title be?
Jesus Christ, God-Damn It

PHILLIP

1. What five words would you use to define yourself?
Loud, Trendsetter, Gay, Outspoken, Diva

2. What are the differences between the A-list New York and the A-list Dallas?
The difference between the A-List NY/A-List Dallas is I consider us a real family. No matter what the situation is between us we will always have each others back. We break-up to make-up and then probably break up again. Haha.

3. In Dallas, why are you on the A-list and not the D-list?
Because I’m “cooler” than the other side of the pillow. Haha! I’m pretty much the who’s who in Dallas. There’s no doubt about it.

4. Describe your other cast members in one word:
Chase: Judgemental
James: Victim
Ashley: Barbie
Levi: Gentleman
Taylor: Unicorn (supposedly gay republicans don’t exist.)

5. What do you have that everyone else wants making you a commodity on the A-list?

A BIG… sense of humor. Haha.

6. If you were a book, what would your title be?
Stepping out.. The Truth Behind Phillip Willis

ASHLEY

1. What five words would you use to define yourself?

Artistic, conservative, LOVING, married, Christian.

2. What are the differences between the A-list New York and the A-list Dallas.
I think the main difference between our cast and the NY Cast is our love for each other! We really love and support each other!

3. In Dallas, why are you on the A-list and not the D-list?
Clearly I’m on the A-List because my name starts with an “A.”

4. Describe your other cast members in one word:
Chase: Sarcastic
James: My baby boy
Levi: Rough
Phillip: Selfish
Taylor: Quirky

5. What do you have that everyone else wants making you a commodity on the A-list?
I have a very secure, solid, happy marriage!

6. If you were a book, what would your title be?
I would be a 10-volume series of Pulitzer Prize-winning text books titled “Dumb Blonde.” Don’t judge a book by it’s cover!

Thanks Guys!

Nyasha Zimucha…Keepin’ It Real on The A-List!

In 2009, Nyasha Zimucha was listed as “One of the top 10 visionaries” by New York based African Magazine. Just to put this in perspective, the list also included Tyler Perry, Alicia Keys and President Obama. Besides being the CEO and founder of her own company, Embrace Your Hair, she is also a recording artist, reality star(having already been on 2 reality television series) and held the title of Miss Africa USA. Maybe it’s her sharp wit, her incredulous beauty or her sly smirk, but we were immediately taken with this unstoppable goddess. While watching LOGO TV’s The A-List New York, we saw her daily interactions, but we wanted to learn more about this African Queen…

1. Introduce us to Nyasha Zimucha in one sentence.
Singer/TV Personality/Businesswoman and a girl on a mission.

2. We love a beauty queen! When we learned you were Miss Africa USA we loved you even more! Tell us about the pageant and your time as Miss Africa USA.
Representing the African continent (53 countries) in the US was one of the greatest, life-changing experiences of my entire life. The amount of time, energy and resources I gave into non-profit work for Africa and the US was so humbling. I met some of the most influential and inspiring people in the WORLD – which changed my perspective on my personal ability to truly fulfill my dreams. I liked this accomplishment the most because it made my parents proud.

3. Your hair is hot! Especially since you are so open about your love of wigs. Tell us about your company and what drove you to start this business?
I LOVE hair and wanted to share my love and passion for it with women of all ethnic backgrounds and show them that hair is no different than fashion trends/accessories, there is no reason why any woman has to be tied down to one look – EMBRACE YOUR HAIR:) I don’t do anything I’m not passionate about so starting a business that allowed me to make women feel beautiful and give back to women who are suffering was a blessing.

4. What was your immediate response when you begin filming LOGO TV’s The A-List NY?
There was hesitation from some of the cast, however after a few weeks they all gave in, the walls came down and a lot of us have grown to like each other in and outside the show.

5. How does it feel to be the token girl in an all male cast?
It’s always great to be a part of “the first” to do something. Never in the history of reality television/unscripted has this been done and I like a challenge. The funny thing is I don’t FEEL like the “token” because outside of the show I have many gay friends – its important to be open minded about the social circles you choose.

6. What is some of the feedback you’ve gotten as being a straight girl in a gay show?

People are talking and my old fan base before the show has stayed loyal and some new fans have come around and supported me in such a positive way – the rest is irrelevant.

7. On the show you said that there are two kinds of people you know, the ones that can hang and that ones that can’t. What does it take to hang with you?
Always keep it real! I love genuine people who are hard working and trying to somehow impact/change the World in a small/big way. It has NOTHING to do with material/money and more to do with heart.

8. This season there seems to be more drama and arguing. How true to life is what we see in regards to this intense drama?
Anything is magnified when you see it on television – some things more magnified than others and I think if you watch the rest of the season you will see and understand exactly what I mean.

9. So far what has been your most favorite and least favorite moment on the show?
My favorite part has been the opportunity to share my music with the audience, and least favorite is anything to do with drama/fight because ultimately I truly do not enjoy conflict – no matter what you see for 5 minutes on TV.

10. Before the A-List you were a judge in “Little Miss Perfect” season 1 and 2… To the ones that don’t know, tell us what the show is about and what was your experience like?
It was a kids beauty pageant TV show inspired by the movie ‘Little Miss Sunshine’. For 2 years I got to travel across America with my best friend (Michael Galanes) and meet some very interesting families who’s main passion is competing in beauty pageants. The biggest misconception about kids pageants is that there is some “evil Mom” forcing her child to be on a stage – you would be surprised how secure and confident some of these 5 year olds were, and pushing to be on stage! Pageants have been the gateway to many stars and I love being involved in them on all age levels.

11. On you website, NyashaOnline, and on the show you talk a lot about your music. Tell us about your music career.
I’ve been performing for a long time, started singing in the recording gospel group back in 2003 and did that for years and toured all over the US. As a solo artist my last performance was in South Africa in 2009, and as an artist I wanted to re-evaluate my sound, write some new lyrics and channel my energy into the US market. I love pop-culture but I’m also socially conscious and love to dance – a strong mix of all those make up my music. Its a blessing to be able to make music, and perform and I never take it for granted. Currently working on an album, and just shot a music video for my new single “Rise Up Remix” (available on iTunes now) and looking forward to growing as an artist.

12. How did you become a cast member on The A-List. What would you recommend to someone who wanted to get on a reality show? What’s the secret?
I was asked to come on right before the show without knowing much about it – the casting director approached me, told me about the show, I went through the process of meeting the production company, the network and here I am. This is not something I went out of my way to pursue, it truly was a blessing in disguise. After many years in the entertainment industry I can say there is no “secret” its good timing, creating and sustaining good relationships with people and MOST important – BE YOURSELF!

13. How do you define sexy?
Confidence, a passionate persona and a world traveler!

14. What do you believe is the sexiest city in the world? Sexiest hotel? Sexiest club? Sexiest celebrity? Sexiest Reality Show Star?
Sexiest City is New York, Sexiest Hotel is the Wynn in Vegas, Sexiest Club is Dada Bar + Lounge in Hong Kong, Sexiest celebrity is Taylor Lautner!

15. Are you currently in a relationship? If so tell us how the show affects the relationship, in a good way or bad, or if not then what do you look in for the perfect partner?
Classified as “single” – no such thing as a “perfect partner” no-one is perfect its about timing and chemistry.

16. What are 5 things you must have in your purse with you at any given time?

Blackberry, 3 different kinds of lip gloss, a piece of costume jewelery and my iPod.

17. If you had to listen to one CD for the rest of your life and it couldn’t be a mixed CD, what would it be and why?

Miseducation of Lauren Hill – one of the most inspiring albums of my generation.

18. In five years, what are five dreams you would like to have accomplished?

To be doing everything I am currently doing on a bigger scale and to be doing it with health, my family first in line to share it all with and love!

19. What is sexiest on a man and you; boxers, briefs, jockstraps…or nothing at all?

Briefs

Thanks Sexy! We Adore You!

Reichen Lehmkuhl…The Straight Story!

On April 4th, 2011 nude webcam photographs of LOGO TV’s The A-List star Reichen Lehmkuhl were exposed all over the internet. Instantly, bloggers and social commentators were expressing their feelings about Reichen’s intimate photograph and reposting the image as if they now had a better understanding of him simply because they were privy to what he looked like when he wasn’t wearing his underwear. They didn’t. The reports were sophomoric and pathetic.

Sure, most people are excited to see a little nudity now and then, especially celebrity nudity, but have we become so detached that we can’t imagine how we might feel if we were in the same position. In the end, Reichen was the last one laughing res, ponding to the incident on RumorFix.com by stating I don’t feel that this story represents anything different in me than what the majority of gay men have done at one point or another — as far as posting a private picture over Internet lines for private viewing. In my, now, nine years of being in the public eye, I’ve seen many less-flattering photos attributed to me, so that’s a plus. Moving on …

Exactly! Interestingly, none of these commentators went past defining him as an A-List or Amazing Race star. They didn’t detail his 9 years of service in the U.S. Air Force or that he had already penned an autobiography. They couldn’t even be as honest as to admit that Reichen is indeed extremely handsome and sexy, nonetheless gifted and talented. Maybe that’s the price you pay for putting yourself in the public eye; especially your private self.

But we wanted to know more about this guy than just what was happening under his briefs. We wanted to know what made him tick and why he belonged on “the A-List“. So we checked out the bio on his website; “A Graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, a former Captain in the Air Force after 9 years of service, a flight instructor, a published author, a public speaker, a television personality, an actor of television, stage, and film, a model, and a reality television icon; it’s quickly apparent thatonce Reichen sets a goal, it is only a matter of time before he reaches it.

Knowing more, we now felt inclined to find out intimate details which weren’t hidden in the shine of a webcam photograph. We wanted to find out exactly who he was and to once and for all, set the story straight…

1. Tell us about Reichen and how he found his way in and onto the A-List?
I was called on by the casting folks hired by the A-List Production and asked to do the show. Going into it, I really had no idea what it was going to be. They found out I was moving to New York because I had posted on my Facebook page that I had landed the lead in a play in New York and that I’d be leaving Los Angeles for a little while.

2. You’re from Norton, Massachusetts. Tell us about your life growing up and how being from a small town helps you live in NYC.
I was born in Cincinnati and, when I was 9, moved to Norton with my family. I think growing up in a small town keeps you grounded in a big city, but I’m not too fond of my childhood time in Norton. I grew up in a trailer park there. It was rough being made fun of all the time for being “that” kid.

3. Thanks to the A-List NY we’ve gotten to know more of you. What are three things we wouldn’t know about Reichen by looking at you?
A. I value loyalty in my friends and relationships. When that is broken, I run. B. I have served our country in the U.S. Air Force for 9 years of my life. C. I have a dream of being a dentist and owning my own practice.

4. Walk us through a typical day of taping for the A-List from scheduling to the moment you sit in front of your tv and watch it with the rest of the world.
It’s all very random. I usually get a call or text the day before telling me where the “set” will be, what time to show up, and roughly what I should wear. Much of what I shoot ends up on the cutting room floor. Tiny similarly-themed slices of my life and what I say on a daily basis are shown on the show. The other 99.9% of me is never shown.

5. Season two opened with the scandal of your nude photographs being exposed. How did you and your family react to these photographs?
They were upset that I was hurt by it all.

6. How supportive is your family with you being gay and being on a gay reality television show?
Amazingly supportive. My family is heavily involved in PFLAG(Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays).

7. Of all of the cast members, who will you remain friends with for the rest of your life? Who will you never talk to again after the show?
I don’t really know most of the cast members in an intimate way. We work together but I rarely hang out with them outside of the show for no other reason than we’re all just very busy in our “other” lives. I’ve tried to be nice to all of them. Probably always will.

8. Reality television has the reputation of being staged or scripted. How real are the situations and drama in the A-List New York?
The situations are real. It’s just what’s taken from them in editing that skews the way the viewer sees each situation differently from how it actually happens.

9. This season we’re introduced to Nyasha. How does the flair of this sassy straight gal affect the dynamics of a mainly gay cast?
Nyasha has been cool to have on the show. I’ve come to know her off camera and I like what I see. We’re getting closer as the days go on.

10. Lets play Marry, Kill, Fuck (and explain your picks) with some of your cast members: Derek, Austin, TJ?
Well I would do any of those to any of my cast mates.

11. How do you define sexy?
Responsible, thoughtful of others, good manners, athletic, drive for success.

12. What do you believe is the sexiest city in the world? Sexiest hotel? Sexiest club? Sexiest gay celebrity?
Sexiest City: New Orleans. Sexiest Hotel: The London in West Hollywood. Sexiest gay celebrity: Ricky Martin.

13. Many interviews and articles paint your dislike of Austin, but in the last couple of episodes we see you being friendly and nice. What’s the real deal between you two?
I’m his friend overall. He just does alot of things to piss me off. The way he talks about his relationship annoys me, but he’s young and it’s fine.

14. What is a movie, book and CD(album) that really impacted your life?

Movie: Interview with a Vampire. Book: The Celestine Prophecy. CD: The Grateful Dead: American Beauty.

15. You have a couple of new projects in the works; a new book, a fragrance and even a skin care line. Tell us what inspired you to take on these projects?
Just a pure entrepreneurial spirit, and knowing that I can make money to donate some of it to help my community.

16. What do you look for in the perfect partner and relationship?
Someone who makes me feel like they really like me for me. That they care about me and not just what I can do for them.

17. How do you feel about marriage equality now that it has come to NYC?
I’m really happy that we have made another step toward equal rights for all citizens.

18. Will there be any more singing this season for you?
Yes in my home, but not on the show so I can be made to look like a disaster. I’ve written and sang and recorded songs all my life. It’s more for me and not for public ridicule.

19. If you were to write an autobiography, what would it be titled and why?
I wrote one. It was published in 2006 and it’s called, “Here’s What We’ll Say”. That’s what us cadets used to say to each other when we’d return to the U.S. Air Force Academy after being out at a gay place…so we could have our story straight and not be sent to prison for being gay.

20. What is sexiest on a man and you; boxers, briefs, jockstraps…or nothing at all?
Sexiest is briefs on all guys.

Thanks Buddy!
