Last week we were at dinner and one of our friends commented how we were constantly on our phones.  “You guys are like the mavens of social media.  You’re always on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr or Instagram!” This inspired us to start a weekly “best of” list of our favorite social media accounts…Twitter, Facebook, Tumbr, Instagram, YouTube and Pinterest! Every Friday morning we’ll be posting our favorites from these sites and encourage you to follow these amazing profiles and blogs! This week…our list is quite diverse!

 

1. TWITTER

Every time she Tweets…we die! “I fart on the way up when I do sit ups.” “my BF said he wanna have sex n the bathtub. How tf we gone have sex n the bathtub when i cant even fit n that muhfucka?” “bitch yo name is “TAMISHA” we already know you ugly as fuck.” “My nipples are shaped like little chicken mcnuggets.”…And on and on and on! We literally lol laying in bed, reading her tweets.  And if you don’t like her Tweets…”If I’m annoying then Unfollow me.. It’s simple! bitches make so hard” LMAO! While only following 20 people(no, we’re not one of them), she has some 75,000 devoted followers who love to read her sexually driven, McDonald’s and Chipotle eatin’ Tweets…

 

2. Tumblr

We randomly came across Alex’s Tumblr blog and were instantly amazed.  This kid has an incredible eye for men’s and women’s fashion and style! We also follow him on Twitter and Instagram and love his raw honestly and his passion for anything fashion related.  His mixture of photographs as well as his own dialogue, weaving together like “lovely” and “badass” into the same sentence, give him a unique voice in the fashion scene! (By the way Alex…congrats on your new job).  We really think you guys should check him out as we’re sure he’ll be something big someday soon! Also follow him on Twitter at @alexpalmieri1 Oh…and he’s super cute!

 

3. Facebook

Tom and Lorenzo/Project Rungay

 

 

 

 

Some people are probably going to find it strange that we picked Tom and Lorenzo as having one of our favorite Facebook pages…for 2 reasons.  One, because they run a full service website…which we LOVE! And two…because they’re kind of our competition.  Kind of…But the reality is that they were way ahead of us and we all have to have older mentors, right? We adore their site and love to read everything they post! On top of that…their Facebook page posts everything they don’t post on their website.  Definitely check them out…as well as their website Tom and Lorenzo for celebrity news! (And by the ways boys…we’d love to get together over drinks sometime! xo)

 

4. Pinterest

We love, love, love Kaleb Willis on Pinterest! He mixes awesome, class men’s fashion and style with feminine, non-fashion related issues like weddings, flowers and home decor! His eye is incredibly keen and specific, while diverse in his tastes. With more than 400,000 followers, he’s making quite an impact. Trust us…you won’t be disappointed!

 

5. Instagram

Oh how we love Mike Snedegar! We interviewed him a few years back and have been lucky enough to consider him a friend ever since! His Twitter account @MIKESNEDEGAR profile reads “Celebrity Events / Strategic Marketing Ninja – TAO, LAVO, MARQUEE GenerosityWater.org, Party Rocker, Photography, Music, DJ’s” And did we see him on an episode or 2 of The Kardashians??? But lately, it’s his Instagram pictures we’ve loved the most! And not only that…he’s a great follower because he constantly keeps up with liking and commenting on other people’s pictures! He has over 6000 Instagram followers who enjoy his pictures, ranging from Vegas nightlife to gumballs! Definitely check him out!

 

6. YouTube

GaysoftheWeek/Brian and Daniel

 

 

 

 

Last weekend we begin catching up on all of of favorite YouTube channels…but ended up watching countless hours of Brian and Daniel from gaysoftheweek(If you don’t know about this collab channel, check it out…it’s amazing!) We’re not really sure what it is about this adorable couple from Nova Scotia, but it is so easy to watch video after video and never get bored.  They’re hilarious, endearing and loveable! They now live in Toronto and fill their videos with stories from their personal lives as well as giving commentary on pop culture! You HAVE to check them out…you’ll love them!

We get asked all of the time, “How do you guys get so many followers and readers of your website raannt? What is your trick?” Trick? You want to know our tricks and our secrets? Ok…here’s one…(we don’t have so many followers or subscribers.  Sometimes we wished we did, so we felt better about ourselves, but we don’t.  We have a good following, and it’s building…but it’s not a million!)

But we can teach you how to get a million or more followers on Twitter, or likes on Facebook or subscribers on YouTube…it’s simple! Just follow these 4 easy steps!

1. Ask yourself: Why do I want more followers?   If your answer is because you’re trying to promote your business and you’ve been reading every article on the internet about buying followers and building your marketing strategies, you’re way off.  If you’re just someone who wants to feel better about themselves by having lots of followers…you still have a chance.  The internet is saturated with these bullshit marketers who will sell you on ways to build your marketing schemes and get more followers thus building a better business.  They smog Twitter and Facebook with constant links of articles on these subjects.  Delete them and stop following them. Are you just in business to make money? You have to have something worthwhile to market in the first place or no marketing scheme in the world will sell it.  Good products and good talent sells itself.  Period.  Scrap that old business plan, re-evaluate your life and prepare for your resignation.  What have you always wanted to do? Write a book? Be a movie star? Charter a boat in the Caribbean? Start dreaming again and put to rest words like “better blogging content” and “search engine optimization“.  Figure out who you are and set your destiny.

2.  Begin Your New Life! Once you’ve decided on your passion and have begun working on your real life…writing, singing, making videos, being a comedian, whatever…start working on it! Dreams don’t happen by sitting on your ass. Three years ago we started a blog as a joke and now on our website raannt we get to interview A-List celebrities and review all kinds of pop culture events…and we’re having a blast doing it! Our cardinal rule was that when it stopped being fun, we wouldn’t do it anymore.  We’re still having fun…lots of fun.  And although we’re not an overnight success, we’re growing and so are our opportunities…but we are committed to only doing things we enjoy. Life is too short to become consumed with numbers and success.  True success is measured by the happiness you feel at the end of the day.

3.  Begin to get real followers. Once you’ve decided you’re no longer going to sit at a cubicle or behind your computer at home and build your marketing strategies, it’s time to build your real business.  The business of your heart.  Your passion! Start following those people with like interests.  If you like to sing…follow singers.  If you like to write…follow writers.  If you’re gay…follow other gay people.  If you’re a stay at home mom…follow other stay at home moms.  If you’re a dog(like our dog Peeps McGee @mrppmcgee)…follow other dogs.  Why are you following bore-ass people who don’t interest you just so you can find more links that aren’t helping you.  Follow your soul.  Retweet things that really interest you and start talking to the people you follow and your followers.  Only watch videos that interest you on YouTube and leave comments.  Only put real stuff on Facebook.  It’s just Facebook! The more real you are, the more real followers you’ll get.  You can buy a million followers who are fake, but they aren’t real so you might as well plan a convention, book a thousand fake people and stand at the podium by yourself.  It means nothing…to you or anyone else!

4. Start to feel human again! Life is not about the amount of followers you have or about having the best blogging content.  Life is measured by the passion you feel pumping through your veins.  When Harper Lee wrote To Kill a Mockingbird, she didn’t believe it would ever sell.  Now, 30 million copies later, it is sometimes considered The Great American Novel.  Comedian and YouTube superstar Jenna Marbles became famous after her video How To Trick People Into Thinking You’re Good Looking went viral! She had uploaded videos before that but continuing to do what she loved paid off! She now has almost 3 million subscribers and has had over 500 million video views! Same story with Chris Crocker.  He made one video that went viral and now he’s considered a YouTube dynasty and just starred in a documentary about his life!

We interviewed novelist Charlaine Harris, writer of the Sookie Stackhouse books which inspired the HBO series True Blood, on our website raannt.   She’s written tons of books and several series, but those books just happened to be the ones made into a television show…and they’re not even her favorites that she’s written.  All of these people followed their passion and it paid off.  They’re living…really living! If you asked them, they’d probably say they don’t care how many followers they have or how many subscribers they have.  Hell…Jenna Marbles must be so swamped with e-mails because we can’t even get her to respond to our request for an interview! But we continue to watch because we love her and what she does!

Tumblr is filled with thousands of teenagers who have a fan base of thousands.  They aren’t doing anything but being themselves and posting pictures and quotes of things that define themselves.  Twitter and YouTube are filled with people who have tons of followers but do videos of random stuff or tweet about macaroni and cheese.  As YouTube sensation Johnnyboyxo recently told us in an interview, “Real knows real”.

Do what you love and the followers will follow.  If they don’t, you’re still doing what you want and who cares.  We’re entering a new renaissance where anything creative is possible.  We believe in the next 5-10 years if you have no talent or worthy product, just a highly developed marketing strategy…you’ll be bankrupt; emotionally, financially…and personally! The days of the Paris Hiltons are over.  Too many people are trying to optimize their lack of talent and improve their brand without really having one.  Fuck what people tell you…find your passion, do it because you love it…and let the rest happen naturally!

We have a Democrat in the Presidential office…yet we still do not have national marriage equality.  At the time we are writing this, the US national debt is $15,630,722,222,420.64 increasing at $3.97 Billion a day since September 28, 2007.  Each citizen’s share is approximately $50,000.  So…as gays and lesbians…how do we vote? Do we vote for our party? Do we vote per issue? Do we vote for the person we think is most appropriate? Do we not vote at all???

The Presidential election is 6 months away, but what if we had to decide today.  If you could only pick one…which would you choose?

The world is consumed with social media.  Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, Instagram, Match.com,, Grindr, LInkedIn…the list goes on and on and on.  Most people have accounts on either one or all of the social websites out on the webosphere.  We may even think there is something wrong with the random person who braggs, “I don’t have a Facebook account.” No Facebook account? If you haven’t heard, Glee’s onscreen couple, Lea Michele and Cory Montieth, attended the Coachella music festival together this weekend.  This might not be much of a surprise to most Glee fans, who have been reading reports for weeks of an off-screen romance.  Come on! Who wouldn’t love for Rachel Berry and Finn Hudson to fall in love in real life.  When we first heard these stories, we didn’t believe it.  We’re addicted to Glee but this was just too good to be true.  What next? Darren Criss and Chris Colfer? God…we wish! No…we were just as skeptical as the rest.

In fact, after we Tweeted last night from our Boys of Raannt account, We have unseen pics of couple @msleamichele and @CoryMontieth weeks ago in NYC to be posted tomorrow at http://raannt.com #glee our account blew up and we started having Glee fans from all over sending us direct messages and tweets.  One fan, like many others, even questioned the authenticity of their relationship Tweeting @theboysofraannt omg!! Cant believe theres still naive people that thinks they are a real couple PR staged pics @GLEETV.

We thought the same thing…until 3 weeks ago.  One of our very close friends happened to be in NYC for the weekend.  Before flying home on Sunday, March 25th, she and some friends were having brunch at The Jane(hotel). Halfway through her brunch, she looks up to notice Lea Michele and Cory Montieth walking in together and being seated, alone, in the restaurant.  When asked if they looked like a couple, she replied, “They looked very cozy.  They were obviously a couple and not trying to hide it.” And although the pictures aren’t amazing, taken on her iPhone between the elbows and arms of the other brunchers, we were happy enough to see the couple, looking like the rest of us on any Sunday.  Tired and hungry.

So…A real, life Hollywood couple or a PR stunt?  We hope they’re really in love.  It would make for a perfect ending, right?
