Kaskade and Jason Bentley Join Insomniac Documentary “Under the Electric Sky”

EDC 2013: Under the Electric Sky, the forthcoming documentary chronicling the fan experience through the 17th annual Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), Las Vegas, has signed on Kaskade(Check out our interview with Kaskade HERE) to create the musical score to accompany the film. KCRW Music Director Jason Bentley will act as the music supervisor and musical director for the documentary and the film’s soundtrack. In June 2013, EDC Las Vegas attracted a sold out crowd of 345,000 attendees over three days at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“Kaskade and Jason understand the energy and passion that EDC fans bring to the festival,” said Pasquale Rotella, CEO and founder of Insomniac. “By working together, I’m confident they will create a soundtrack which brings back memories for those that have attended EDC in the past, while also inspiring those who have never joined in the experience.”

Kaskade is a GRAMMY-nominated artist who released his eighth studio album, Atmosphere, on September 10, 2013, and has scored 12 Top 10 hits on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay Chart. His 2011 double-album, Fire & Ice, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart, and earned him his first GRAMMY Award nomination.

“EDC has become an American institution,” said Kaskade, “and there’s a tangible power in such a massive shared experience.  Translating that intensity into a film score is an undertaking I’m truly looking forward to.”

Jason Bentley is music director of Santa Monica based NPR affiliate KCRW and host of the influential music programs Morning Becomes Eclectic weekdays and the dance-focused Metropolis every Saturday night. In addition, Bentley has worked as music supervisor and soundtrack producer for TRON: Legacy with Daft Punk, and The Matrix trilogy, among other film projects.

“EDC has evolved into one of the most powerful music festivals in recent history and I’m excited to put my creative stamp on this documentary,” said Jason Bentley. “This film captures the beautiful relationship that fans have with the show, and I’m looking forward to creating a soundtrack that reflects this magical experience.”

EDC 2013: Under the Electric Sky follows the journey of several festivalgoers as they make their way from their hometowns to the EDC Las Vegas festival grounds. The film will chronicle their unique experience through the event that has touched the lives of thousands all over the world. Beginning in 1997 with a few thousand revelers in Los Angeles, the Electric Daisy Carnival has become the largest dance music event in North America. The festival is known for its immersive environment featuring state-of-the-art stage production, pyrotechnics and lighting, roaming theatrical performers and dancers, full-scale carnival rides and interactive art installations.

Magical Elves partners Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, the production team behind the documentaries Katy Perry: Part of Me, and Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never direct the documentary. Haven Entertainment, producers of the acclaimed film A Band Called Death, is producing the film. William Morris Endeavor (WME) represents the film, which will be released in early 2014.

DJ Quintino Brings Us to Another World…An Interview!

quintino 2013 1_raannt

EDM is all about evolution; the change from old to new and back again.  Quintino has the magic touch of creating new sounds and beats that feel fresh and unheard while leaving our ears wanting more.  Over the course of his career, this young DJ has worked with the likes of Tiesto and Afrojack.  He has performed at the most attended music festivals and has fans all across the world, all the while continuing to impress us with the freshness of his music, his excitement with every set, and the humbleness that makes him the person behind the DJ personality.  Quintino took some time to chat with us in the midst of his crazy music life to show us what truly makes him the DJ evolving with the times.

Quintino 2013 2_raannt

1. Introduce us to Quintino in 7 words or less?

Energetic always giving 100% with a smile.

2. You’ve been making music since you were 18.  How has electric music change throughout your career as a DJ/Producer?

For me it all started in Holland, when the hype was so big for the EDM in Holland .. so we made the music that was hot back in the time. But everything changes really fast, and as you can see the quality of all the tracks are way better and there are way more producers/djs nowadays which is a good thing. So you have to improve yourself over and over!

quintino 2013 3_raannt

3. Define your sound to us.  How do you set yourself apart from other DJs?

Trying to be refreshing every time and not doing the same thing over and over. I want my tracks to have a lot of energy but always with a twist to a new sound. Sometimes that’s really hard. But with Epic for example that really worked out.

4. What is your drink of choice and why?

Alcohol is Grey Goose because it’s the best vodka and no hangover! Non alcohol is apple juice and I really don’t know why I just like it.

5. What are three things we wouldn’t know by looking at you?

I love soccer games and I played it myself for a long time.  I eat a lot of sushi.  You can wake me up for that. I always buy new socks.

6. How does it feel to work with huge DJs like Tiesto and Afrojack?

Thats amazing. I was so honored that Tiesto put me at the DJ Mag as breakthrough artist! And with Afrojack we started as friends and when we tour we tour as friends.  That’s a really good thing.

quintino 2013 4_raannt

7. What are some of your rituals when producing/mixing tracks?

Standing up every 15 minutes to do something.  I like to work late at night when everything around me is quiet and there are no distractions.

8. If you could work with any three musicians, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

That’s easy! Michael Jackson for sure. Biggest pop star ever and I would let him sing on some new EDM music.  Sia.  I think she is one of the best vocalists of the world, loving all the tracks she has done. Usher is the last one but already a big fan from when I was young till now.

9. If you had to master a different genre of music, which one would it be and why?

Hip hop! I really love the nasty dry beats, especially the ones from the Neptunes from back in the time.

10. How do you define sexy?

If music brings you to another world and you feel in top of the world!

quintino 2013_5

11. What is the sexiest city? Hotel? Club? Song? DJ? Place to kiss?

Miami // W hotel // XS Las Vegas // Fish Go Deep – Cure and the Cause // DJ Miss Nine // neck

12. When touring, what are the three things you always have to have with you?

Laptop , phone and fresh new socks.

13.  What would be the name of the soundtrack for your life?

Sky is the Limit

quintino 2013 6_raannt

14. What’s next for Quintino?

A lot of exciting stuff coming up and I’m full of energy.

15. What are your three simple luxuries?

A lot of love from my family even though I don’t see them a lot.  Skype and complimentary water in the hotel rooms hahahahahahahaha!

EDX leventina the tempest_raannt

EDX releases his genre-bending collaboration with Leventina, “The Tempest,” via Spinnin’ Records. “The Tempest” quickly moves from subtle beginnings to high energy electro that demands movement on the dance floor. Danny Avila Goes Deep and Hard with ‘Poseidon’ Out Dec. 2 on Musical Freedom + Tour Dates!

danny avila poseidon musical freedom_raannt

Danny Avila gets ready to release his latest track ‘Poseidon’ on the Dutch icon’s Musical Freedom imprint.  The combination of a deep, throbbing bass-line, synth stabs and drowned melodic lines lead through the first sector of the track before ‘Poseidon’ evolves into what some listeners, who might be slightly longer in the tooth than others, might recognize as elements of hard house. Bouncing beats and percussion, driving crescendos plus a sick little ‘lock n load’ effect thrown in for good measure more than replicate the energy that Avila has become globally renowned for in his DJ sets, cementing ‘Poseidon’ as a firm fan favorite whenever the Spanish wunderkind steps behind the digital 1s and 2s.

edc electric daisy carnival 2014 tickets_raannt

Insomniac announced that Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), North America’s largest dance music festival, will return to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for its 18th edition on June 20-22, 2014. The festival will bring Insomniac’s signature over-the-top production and creative elements to the venue including elaborately designed stage production and lighting, pyrotechnics, roaming theatrical performers, dancers and acrobats, interactive art installations and amazing music, with many new surprises for fans to discover.

Today’s announcement was released via a seven minute mini movie which relived some of the many magical moments shared during EDC Las Vegas 2013 as well as important information regarding upcoming on-sale dates for the 2014 edition of the festival.

For the first time, Insomniac is excited to unveil the “Headliner Loyalty Program,” which gives loyal fans the opportunity to secure tickets first. Loyal fans that successfully purchased passes to EDC Las Vegas in 2011, 2012 and 2013 will be able to use a unique code to participate.

“It’s the fans that make our success possible and it’s for that reason that we decided to develop the ‘Headliner Loyalty Program’ for the next EDC Las Vegas,” said Pasquale Rotella, founder and CEO of Insomniac. “It’s their energy and love that make this event possible, so I’m really excited that we’ve found a way to reward those who have been with us in Las Vegas since this adventure started in 2011. We are counting down the days until we welcome everyone back to Las Vegas next June.”

“Headliner Loyalty Program” passes will go on sale for 24 hours, beginning on Nov. 25 at 12 p.m. PST and ending on Nov. 26 at 12 p.m. PST.  An Early Owl Pre-Sale will follow on Dec. 2 at 12 p.m. PST. Additional details regarding the Headliner Loyalty Program and Early Owl on-sale dates can be found on both the Insomniac and EDC websites.

A sold out crowd of 345,000 fans came together over three days for the 2013 festival, which saw expanded production and theatrics.  The festival received acclaim through the introduction of new, meticulously designed scenic and production stages, inspired art installations including an art car parade and the innovative Night Owl Experience, the brainchild of Rotella.

EDC will once again take over Las Vegas during EDC Week, June 17 – 23, 2014, with an eclectic mix of nightclub and dayclub events spread across several Las Vegas’ venues. Insomniac’s annual dance music conference, EDMbiz, will also return for its third year in addition to a brand new dance music awards show.

Tickets for EDC Las Vegas 2014 will start at $249 for general admission and $499 for VIP tickets for those 21 and over, in addition to service fees. VIP amenities will include a separate entrance to the festival for rapid entry, viewing decks overlooking multiple stages, full cash bars located on the VIP decks and lounge areas, separate restroom facilities, access to exclusive areas, a VIP lanyard and badge and a dedicated Ferris wheel. Seven Lions Releases The Gathering Darkness Part I: “Serpent of Old” Featuring Ciscandra Nostalghia

seven lions serpect of gold nostalghia_raannt

This track is SOOOO hot!!!! Seven Lions releases a striking new single, “Serpent of Old” featuring Ciscandra from Nostalghia, via Skrillex’s OWSLA label. He dives into a darker side of his production that is manifested in his ominous song, “Serpent of Old.” In “Serpent of Old,” he begins with a soft beat that is met with Ciscandra’s yearning vocals, sweeping atmospheric effects, and a seemingly eastern-influenced melody. Shortly after the different elements combine and build together, the track opens up with a booming bassline that drives the main sequence through glitchy accents before hitting a trance-like bridge and returning back to the bassline. Seven Lions swaps out a euphoric, uplifting vibe for a mysteriously shadowy and deeply stirring offering.
