Tiësto Rocks The Indy 500 Maxim Party 2016

Last Friday we attended the 2016 Maxim Party at Indy 500, produced by Karma International, in celebration of the 100th running of the Indy 500.   We love going to any kind of event, but because we are such huge EDM fans, we were excited to see Tiesto in a much smaller venue than we had seen him in the last year.  But we’re getting way ahead of ourselves!

The Maxim Party was held in The Pavilion, centrally located in downtown Indianapolis.  The venue was perfect for the party and when we arrived, we were delighted to be met by sexy girls dressed as race car drivers.  Later, the red carpet would welcome the likes of Chris Pines, David Letterman, Colt’s player Andrew Luck and other celebrities.

Inside, the ambiance was carefully balanced between the feelings of a Las Vegas lounge and a packed night club in South Beach, which was quickly back lit by the sounds of DJ Irie, a resident DJ of Miami.  Originally from St. Croix, DJ Irie mixed tribal and island beats with today’s mainstays and although we had never heard him spin before, we were instant fans.

As we walked around, servers with trays of Steak ‘n Shake burgers and fries passed out food and several open bars stocked with Hangar 1 Vodka and Maestro Dobel Tequila stood open with almost no wait.  Our friend Melisssa came running up to us at one point, completely excited by the fact that they had an entire candy bar stocked with her favorite kind of candy.

Towards the end of DJ Irie’s set, he brought up Flo-Rida as a surprise guest and Flo-Rida performed a few songs while the audience went absolutely crazy.  Being that the event was in Indianapolis, we were a little worried that maybe the crowd wouldn’t get as excited about a huge DJ like Tiesto, but DJ Irie’s set completely warmed up the crowd and especially the guest appearance of Flo-Rida.

After a set change, Tiesto came on to the stage to the chants of the entire crowd and within a few minutes had everyone dancing.  OK, so we’re kind of snobs when it comes to our EDM and we typically like to see our DJ’s at festivals, so we were interested to see how Tiesto played to the crowd of a smaller venue, even smaller than his Vegas residence, but he didn’t disappoint in the least!  Tiesto was absolutely amazing and even came out of the gate playing a new mix of Galantis’ No Money, one of our favorite songs that just came out about a month ago.  Other than that, Tiesto played mostly old stuff and we actually thought it was really cool that he played stuff to a more local crowd that might not be as versed with his more unique mixes.  We danced the entire night and were totally sweaty like the rest of the crowd.

What we loved most about The Maxim Party was that it wasn’t packed, it was very sexy and chill but it played to a local crowd while being celebrity friendly.  It wasn’t stuffy and at times ranged from being completely loungy to full-on rage.  We loved every minute of it and can’t wait til next year!

P.S. Congrats to Alexander Rossi, the winner of the 100th Indy 500!

Andrew Rayel & Digital X feat. Sylvia Tosun – ‘Winterburn’

Andrew Rayel & Digital X feat. Sylvia Tosun, "Winterburn" (Armind)
Andrew Rayel & Digital X feat. Sylvia Tosun, “Winterburn” (Armind)

We love us some Andrew Rayel. Over the last couple of years we’ve had the pleasure to chat and learn more about where his passion and producer magic comes from. With the release of the first single, ‘Winterburn’, of the upcoming full length studio album, that magic we talk about… hit the airwaves. Cheesy or not, we really do think this cat has magical musicality. ‘Winterburn’ plays up Rayel’s classically trained piano skills while American artist, Sylvia Tosun, vocals add humanity and emotion to the track. This high energy trance roller coaster catches your body euphorically with incredibly bassline, an unreal climax and powerful thumps! Rayel worked closely with Digital X (real name: Peter Holub), Ukrainian DJ and producer, in creating ‘Winterburn’ and the this collaboration gets two thumps up! Check the track bellow and buy it here.

The Chainsmokers – Friendzone Tour

The Chainsmokers Friendzone Tour
The Chainsmokers
Friendzone Tour

Like many, we were introduced to The Chainsmokers by their hit single “Selfie”. We remember walking the grounds of Ultra ’14 as they hit the main stage and since then been huge fans! Always making sure we catch their sets if we find ourselves in the same festival, writing about their latest single and (the coolest part of all) chatting – via email – about their latest work and upcoming shows. So, after missing them at TomorrowWorld and finding out they were coming to Indy, we arranged for a killer night. We brought our intern Juan Carlos Paredes to snap pix and review the show! Check out what his impression of the show:

HALFWAY THROUH THE FRIENDZONE!! INDY WAS 🔥 LAST NIGHT! SO PUMPED FOR ST LOUIS TONIGHT!!

A photo posted by The Chainsmokers (@thechainsmokers) on

Since we showed up a little we got to see what the crowd was like. So far it’s exactly what I was thinking it would be, a lot of Indy folk looking to have a good time. A lot of pretty girls, hyped dudes, and everything in between. My favorite part was seeing all the pacers jerseys.

Super Duper were on stage when we arrived. A group I’ve never heard of before. Their style is a mixture of chill house and upbeat. They have a live drummer on stage which I thought is petty cool. They threw in some random bangers that got the crowd vibing to their mellow mix. Shaun Frank came next. First song, Banger! Also, his first time in Indy. Shaun threw killer beats from the beginning and I made me fall in love for his style. During his set we had the opportunity to interview Matoma, which was an awesome experience. But from what I remember (I was sober the whole time) it was exactly what the crowd needed to keep hype for the next two sets.

Boom! Keep an eye on raannt.com for our interview with @matomaofficial!!!!! A video posted by Raannt (@raannt) on

Matoma was amazing! I’m not just saying that to brown nose either. I will admit I was not familiar with his music beforehand but my immediate impression of him was nothing but positive. His blend of tropical house and popular music was incredible. The crowd, and myself, would loose their minds whenever the build up came to a popular song followed by an intense drop. On top of all that, I really enjoyed whenever he, and the other performers, would throw on another dope song from another dj. I heard some Kaskade, Skrillex, Steve Aoki, The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, and the list goes on. Not only was Matoma good but we had the pleasure of seeing him perform from backstage.

The Chainsmokers: Holy. Shit. I knew they were good but they were on a whole other level. Right before they started we were upfront trying to get a good angle for pictures and next thing I know the bass drops (right after the intro) as I’m standing next to the speakers and I nearly lost my balance! They started with a lot of their popular songs and transitioned into a laundry list of songs I’ve never heard of. I didn’t realize that they had trap songs which lead to my pleasant surprise. Not only were they amazing but their set lasted for a respectable amount of time. They had a blend of their own songs, some mixes, and some bangers all blended smoothly. Overall, it was an amazing concert, full of energy and unreal beats!.
