Shake Shook Shaken – An interview with The Dø

the do 2-raannt

A few years back we were introduced to The Dø when Avicii dropped one of their singles on his monthly podcast. Ever since, we’ve romanticized their music and really connected with the tracks they put out. When the announcement of a new single and album came out, we had to jump on the chance to chat with the duo about their new album, music, inspiration and a little bit about Kanye and Beck… Check out our interview with The Dø:

the do 4-raanntAs you start to take over the world this year – What would you like your American fans to know you for?
For ‘Shake Shook Shaken’, ‘Both Ways Open Jaws’, ‘A Mouthful’ and our filmed Live sessions from Pigalle.

How did you two meet and what made you start The Dø?
We met in a studio working for soundtracks and started writing our own songs for fun at first. Our first EP as The Dø was released as the music of a contemporary dance piece.

What is your favorite thing about working with each other?
It’s magic when we write music together in the same room. We are complementary, Dan is better with beats, I’m good with melodies.

the do 1-raannt

What inspired your upcoming album: Shake Shook Shaken?
At first it was a studio joke as we wanted to make a “hits album”, so we thought we could call it “hit hit hit”, but then we thought it was terribly pretentious so we backed out and chose another cool irregular verb. Shake refers more seriously to being shaken up, physically and emotionally.

“Trustful Hands” has the perfect combination of emotional vocals and sexy electro beats.  How do you find/create this musical balance?
It’s like cooking, like balancing spices and salt, it takes patience and much attention.

the do 5-raannt

As you officially enter the American music world, what three musicians would you like to work with and why?
Kanye west, he’s a major inspiration for us.
Rae Sremmurd, I’m obsessed with their voices, I love this rap duet
Beck, because we feel close to his very broad conception of music.

Define sexy:
Effortless, confident, cheeky

the do 3-raannt

What do you think is the sexiest country? City? Hotel? Artist?
Denmark!
New York!
The Michel Berger hotel in Berlin!
ASAP Rocky!

the do 6-raannt

Any chance you will continue the sold-out winter tour onto the states this coming spring/summer?
Yes, we should fly to you quite soon hopefully

What are your three simple luxuries?
Sleeping in our own bed
Being on a boat at full speed
Cooking what’s growing in the garden

EDX…Creating Music that Makes You Dance…An Interview

edx profile_raannt

In a world, not to mention a career, where music changes by the second, one thing is true about EDX; his musical skills are rooted in his passion and dedication to making people feel alive, happy, and to show them a good time through his beats and vocals. 2014 was an incredible year for EDX and as 2015 begins, the international DJ is already taking stages and clubs by storm. During his “Progression of Sound” tour, EDX took some time off to chat with us about his collaborations, mixes, time on the road and his latest project “Collateral Effects” out now HERE.  Check out what he had to tell us below.

edx 3_raannt

What was the inspiration behind making your two-sided EP, “Collateral Effects”?

Initially, I was really in love with “Collateral Effects,” but I was also looking for something more on the sexy and clubby side. “Empathy” was the answer to it.

Last summer you opened up for Avicii at Ushuaia in Ibiza, which is an interesting pairing because you both have rather different sounds. Can you give us some insight on how that came about and how the experience was?

It was my 3rd year in a row. I already opened on some other shows in Miami as well, and it’s always a great experience to play these big stages and events where people with different music tastes get together to celebrate. Can’t wait for 2015 to do it again.

You’ve had a pretty monumental 2014 with hit releases and successful tours. What will 2015 bring for EDX? Can you give us some insight into what you have planned?

I will keep releasing music that I love. I will try to evolve and we will see how much love I will receive in return. My latest productions are a single I did for Miami 2015 and a remix for Nora En Pure & Sons of Maria’s “URUGUAY.”

From your “Progression of Sound” Tour, what were some of your most memorable shows?

I had a couple of sold out shows, I played key territories, I explored many new cities on the map and went back to clubs that I love to play a lot. Don’t know which one was my most memorable, but I know that there were so many returning fans to my shows. This was something I consider memorable.

edx 2_raannt

You’ve officially remixed some big names, from Avicii to London Grammar to Above & Beyond, as well as a couple up-and-comers like Sons of Maria. What do you look for in a song that makes you want to remix it?

I need a great vocal, something touching, or just a melody that I feel I can turn into an evolving chord progression.

Top 5 words that best describe you:

Can I make it 3 words? Make People Smile

What are the top 3 favorite things you need to have when playing?

Smiling People, Good Sound System, Friends

How do you define sexy?

EDX well, music that makes you dance and not jump!

What’s the sexiest City? Hotel? Club? Current track? Music genre?

City – There are so many great places, I pick MIAMI!
Hotel – I like the SLS Beverly Hills a lot.
Club – I pick Lavo NY
Current track – Sandy Rivera – Bang (EDX Remix)
Music genre – House, Balearic Indie Dance, Nu Disco

edx 1_raannt

Would you rather not be able to use your hand or not be able to walk?

Not able to walk

What 3 musicians, dead or alive, would you want to work with and why?

Barry White
Max Martin
Michael Jackson

What are your three simple luxuries?

Time
Friends
Family

CAZZETTE – The Start of a New Chapter; An Interview

cazzette_raannt

CAZZETTE is entering a new chapter in their musical career and we’re extremely lucky to get an insight into the details. Their music and the touring has become more of a platform for the duo to present their new tracks and mixes, connect with their fans and learn from the scene to create a sound that, as electronic music fans, we haven’t heard before. Their energy is perfect and we couldn’t be more excited about our interview with them. Check out CAZZETTE:

cazzette 1_raannt

Introduce each other using 5 words or less.
Music-loving, hardworking, humorous

What should CAZZETTE fans expect from your shows?
We love all sorts of electronic music; therefore, we try to incorporate as much of it as possible into our shows. We play everything from deep to tech house to trap. We never understood the concept of playing the same kind of songs for two hours.

Favorite point of your set and why?
Playing our own unreleased songs is always an amazing feeling. When people dance to a song they don’t know the title to or have never heard before and yet dance, is incredible. We also a have a few crazy bootlegs that always goes off and its really fun to know that the crowd has no clue what is going to come next.

cazzette 2_raannt

If you could work with any musician, dead or alive, who would you pick and why?
J. Dilla, John Lennon and Michael Jackson. Do we really have to explain why?

How do you guys define sexy?
There are many different kinds of sexy. Personality is a huge turn on, but if one is dressed like Kermit the Frog, that doesn’t really help for “sexy” in specific.

What is the sexiest club? City? Hotel? Music festival? Current track?
We feel like clubs in general are pretty “un-sexy,” but we always have a great time at LAVO in NYC. New York would also be the hottest city for us right now. Unfortunately, we have not been to Paris yet. Also, the St. Paul Hotel in Montreal is really nice and kind of has a minimalistic, sexy look. Festivals are defiantly not sexy. The sexiest track at the moment is Prince – “Funknroll.”

What’s your favorite part about touring?
Besides sharing our music with the world, we get to see beautiful cities, eat great food, watch inspiring fashion and meet new people all the time. It’s truly a blessing.

Top 3 things each of you must have backstage?
Coconut water, champagne and tequila.

Out of all your tracks, which one is your favorite and why?
“Sleepless” is our favorite because it represents a new chapter of Cazzette and was a turning point for us after a time of confusion.

What are your three simple luxuries?
Friends, family and humor.

D.O.D. is The Music Man of Jump Up Electro! An Interview

d.o.d. 1_raannt

We caught the D.O.D.’s set at TomorrowWorld day 1 and this cat blew us out of the water! The vibe, the beats, the drops, the energy… absolutely Incredible! We had the pleasure to catch up with the killer DJ and ask him a few questions raannt style! Check him out:

d.o.d. 3_raannt

Introduce yourself in 5 words or less.

I am the music man.

How would you define your sound?

Jump-Up Electro.

What is something about you we wouldn’t know by looking at you?

I’m a stamp collector…Not really! Errrm, I have an obsession with drinking tea. English breakfast is my fave!

If you could work with any 3 DJ/Musician, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

Liam Howlett from the prodigy for being such a dance music pioneer in the 90’s.

DJ Q-Bert for breaking boundaries as a DJ and showing the world stuff on the turntables that no one could have ever though of.

Lauryn Hill the way she sang in the 90’s. I bet she’d do a killer vocal!

d.o.d. 2_raannt

How do you define sexy?

Natural beauty! Not about the fake eyelashes and the makeup that looks like it has been caked on by Steve Aoki. Sexy isn’t someone who flaunts it in my opinion. Obviously a little bit of cheekiness doesn’t go a miss though!

What do you think is the sexiest city? Hotel? Club? Festival? Music Track?

City: Manchester, UK.
Hotel: Mondrian South Beach Hotel – Miami, USA
Club: Amnesia – Ibiza, Spain
Festival: Tomorrowland – Boom, Belgium
Track: Chris Lake – Oh Shhh (Original Mix)

What’s next for D.O.D?

Music, music and more music! I’ve been working my ass off this month. Testing the water with some fresh sounding music. Trying to stay one step ahead of the game. Still doing what I’m doing not but trying to push boundaries and make some more ‘intelligent’ sounding dance music. I’ve also got some big collabs coming up with the likes of Laidback Luke, Borgore, DJ Bl3nd, Sandro Silva + more! Going to be a very busy year of releases!

What are your three simple luxuries?

My three simple luxuries are my computer, my speakers and tea. I LOVE TEA.
