R3hab’s Wild Ride of Chainsaw Madness! An Interview!

rehab5

We have been huge fans of R3hab for awhile now.  Our iPad’s are full of his remixes of Lady Gaga, Dada Life, Calvin Harris and many more.  His name is becoming well known fast in the world of electronic dance music and his fan base is growing quickly, making him one of the most sought after DJ’s and producers on the globe.  We were super excited when he agreed to chat with us for a bit and tell us the secrets behind his chainsaw madness and what beats behind his musical passion!

rehab4

1. Introduce us to R3hab in 5 words or less

Chainsaw madness!

2. How did growing up in Holland shape the DJ/Producer you are today?

I grew up in a very musical city called Breda. Home of Tiesto, Funkerman, Hardwell and a lot more great DJ’s. So basically I started a few years back practicing and playing local clubs in my home town. This led to getting more and more attention and soon I was asked to do a few shows in the US. Since then I have basically never left.

3. How did you get started in the music industry?

Since I was around 17 or 18 when I stopped to finish University – my parents always wanted me to finish university. I have an economic marketing degree because they were not sure I could make a living out of being a DJ.

4. Tell us about your sound.  How do you stand out from all of the other DJ/Producers out there?

For me it took me a long time to find my own sound. It is a process to develop an original sound that fits you. I think I found it with Just a lot of energy and some crazy chainsaw madness for sure haha!

5. What is one of the key elements a music producer should master before entering the music making world?

Find your own sound. Also quality is very important because when you are new you just want to put out stuff. It will just not get noticed if it lacks quality. You have to find that high level of production to be successful.

rehab2

6. How does it feel to be part of Afrojack’s music team and label?

That’s great! Afrojack is an awesome DJ and producer. I’ve known Afrojack for a while; we started around the same age and with the same agency. He was always creative and everybody looked up to him. They would say, “oh that tall guy Afrojack.” He just made crazy music and all of a sudden he blew up. “Take Over Control” and “Give Me Everything,”  – Wow. It helped me out a lot to get signed to his label and get the promotion out.

7. You got to mix the tunes of the EDC12 – Electric Daisy Carnival 2012.   How does it feel to mix the works of world known DJs for millions of fans?

That’s just indescribable, I’m really grateful for the position I am in as a DJ.

8. You have an awesome single that came out– Living 4 the City with Shermanology. How did this collaboration come about and what inspired the track?

It’s basically a theme about the energy all the cities over the world give us when touring the globe.

9. Who has been your favorite music artist to work/mix so far?

I loved producing for Enrique Iglesias, he is such a great guy, so much energy and work ethic. I felt really honored to go to Miami to meet and work with him. Besides that, there are really too many to mention, from Afrojack to Havana Brown, they’re all great artists.

10. Who are 3 musicians – dead or alive – that you admire and would like to work with?

There are a lot of cool singers out there, but I would really want to collaborate with someone who is really talented, but unknown. Like what David Guetta did with Sia on the track “Titanium”, that is the kind of collaboration I am looking for. Find the next big thing and make a cool track together. Would love to be in the studio with Adele, U2 or Red Hot Chili Peppers.

rehab7

11. What is it about electric dance music you love the most and why?

When I was young around 17, I went out to a house party, I heard a couple of tracks, and one of them was D Ramirez’s remix of “Yeah Yeah” and I was like “Wow! This is incredible how can I make this!” You know what’s so cool? I’m not a singer, rapper, writer, or a pianist… in electronic music you can make it without any musical experience besides good hearing.

12. You’ve been traveling all over the world.  What are the 5 things you always take with you?

I’m living really healthy so food is essential for me – fruit shakes, salad and water. I’m always carrying R3HAB merchandise with me to give to the fans, my phone to stay in touch with the world and of course my gear.

13. What’s next for R3hab?

I’ve been playing all over the world this year; it’s been a wild ride. I have planned new R3HAB music for 2013. I remixed a lot this year so I’m planning to bring you more R3HAB originals in 2013!

14. What are you three simple luxuries?

Laptop, phone and being healthy.

Thanks buddy!

NBC’s Fashion Star…The Designer Interviews!

Fashion Star

In a world ruled by fashion, reality television has made its’ mark on the fashion industry by enlisting models, designers, stylists and style moguls to help discover the next big name in the industry.  Fashion Star, on NBC Fridays 8/7c, is the newest, and maybe most innovative of its’ kind, marveling a cast of judges throned by fashion mavens, stylists and designers, with a modern twist making it a must see show for all fashion enthusiasts.  This season, mentors Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos offer advice before the designers display their “wears” in front of three high level buyers from Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and H&M.  The last contestant standing at the end of the season will win a collection within each store worth more than $6 Million!  Check out what the cast had to tell us below about their experience during the competition and a few bites of reality we might not have otherwise known.

Cassandra Hobbins

cassandra

1. Describe yourself in 5 words or less.

Sarcastic, Witty, Short, Tattooed, Canadian

2. Who do you think is your toughest Fashion Star Competition?

Everyone …. who even put me on this show?  ha … ha….. ha ( uncomfortable laugh)

3. How do you define sexy?

My definition of sexy isn’t the obvious, conventional one. I like a more demure sexiness. Layers of sheer fabrics, not a lot of skin, an amazing designer shoe, and a dark, hilarious sense of humor is super sexy. People who don’t take themselves so seriously, are sexy. Top that with a side of leather? That is my kind of sexy.

4. If you could go back and assemble your Fashion Star team -mentor included – who would you pick and why?

I would keep John as my mentor, I really love him. Plus, I’m too obsessed with Jessica and Nicole on a star struck level that I wouldn’t be able to concentrate, I’d just be trying to get them to adopt me.  I’d keep my team the same. Being on Hunter’s team would just make me look even worse than I already do on screen with my comparably itty bitty bids and her lipstick is always so dang perfect. I looked like a hot mess, I couldn’t be standing next to her all the time. Haha. I wouldn’t have minded being on Jesse Ray’s team because he actually laughs at my jokes.

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

My dogs, my juicer and my vintage bicycle.

Hunter Bell

hunter

1. Describe yourself in 5 words or less.

Fearless, driven, funny, sweet, caring

2.  Who do you think is your toughest Fashion Star Competition?

Silvia

3. How do you define sexy?

Confidence in a woman is sexy.

4. If you could go back and assemble your Fashion Star team -mentor included – who would you pick and why?

Jessica again as a mentor, I felt she was focused on seeing the team members be successful, she was honest with feedback and opinions that are relevant to the competition. I’d select Silvia on my team to learn more about the couture house world, Brandon to learn about menswear, Daniel to learn about embroidery/details, Cassandra to learn about “edge” and Jesse/G to learn more about knits.

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

Massages every now and then, fabulous nights out in NYC with incredible food and wine delivery to your apartment in Manhattan.

Daniel Silverstein

daniel

1. Describe yourself in 5 words or less.

Confidant, Creative, Charismatic, Crazy, Compelled

2. Who do you think is your toughest Fashion Star Competition?

Silvia.  She is effortlessly chic, and nobody was capable of making pieces as stylish and timeless as she was.

3. How do you define sexy?

Sexy is a feeling, and a look. Sexy should attract your target audience, do you feel sexy, and will you attract a mate? Yes? Then it is sexy.

4. If you could go back and assemble your Fashion Star team – mentor included – who would you pick and why?

I wouldn’t change a thing! Nicole was amazing, and I learned so much through the trials and tribulations of working with Johana. It might have been fun to collaborate with Brandon however. He is so architecturally inspired and I feel as though we have that in common.

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

A manicure, going out for lunch in the middle of the week and sleeping late on Sunday.

JesseRay Vasquez (Sjobeck)

garrett-gerson-and-jesseray-vasquez

1. Describe yourself in 5 words or less.

Determined, Spontaneous, Social, Humorous, Fun

2. Who do you think is your toughest Fashion Star Competition?

I think our toughest competition was the first episode, Showstoppers, because it was new to all of us and we didn’t understand how to play the game. It became real when we were in the bottom 2.

3. How do you define sexy?

I define sexy as having confidence and that can be achieved with any outfit or style that makes you feel confident and sexy.

4. If you could go back and assemble your Fashion Star team – mentor included – who would you pick and why?

I wouldn’t change my team or mentor.  I felt like we had a good combination and we all worked so well together.

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

 iPhone, Über and iPhone haha!

Garret Gerson (Sjobeck)

garrett-gerson-and-jesseray-vasquez

1. Describe yourself in 5 words or less.

Determined, goofy, hardworking, optimistic, honest

2. Who do you think is your toughest Fashion Star Competition?

I think our toughest competition is Silvia, primarily because she has such a creative eye, and perspective in her designs.  I tend to look at designers that I have a lot of respect for, and in this competition it’s Silvia, and in this instance she’s really doing an amazing job.

3. How do you define sexy?

Sexy to me is looking effortlessly beautiful, with a style that is showing just enough leg, but not giving away the whole book.  Sexy also comes from the inside, it’s a self-confidence and inner peace of knowing who you are that attributes to the overall definition of sexy.

4. If you could go back and assemble your Fashion Star team – mentor included – who would you pick and why?

We got our dream team assembled for us. We have the most amazing mentor Jessica Simpson, and teammate Hunter.  The only person I would want to add to our team would be Caprice, because what we were missing that would be an incredible help would be there perspective of a merchandiser, and buyer.

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

Bracelets that are blessed by Buddhist monks, and the necklace that my grandma gave me, a gold heart.  The surf is a luxury because it’s not every day that I get to do the one thing that really centers me, it’s me time, without phones, or a care in the world.  The bracelets really calm me, there’s an energy in them that I can’t explain, it’s something that you just have to experience.  The necklace is one of the only sentimental items that I have, and it was the last thing that my grandmother gave me before she passed away, it’s been in our family for generations passed down from family member to family member, it reminds me of her, and reminds me to be hard working, humble, and honorable.

Silvia Arguello

silvia

1. Describe yourself in 5 words or less.

Perfectionist, demanding, sensitive, empathetic, extroverted

2. Who do you think is your toughest Fashion Star Competition?

Hate admitting it, but my toughest competitor is myself.   I am by far my worst critic and live fighting against the feeling of ‘it can be done better’!

3. How do you define sexy?

When it comes to being sexy, I feel a woman doesn’t need to reveal all that she has… never too much and always in the right places. Being sexy sometimes means defying the status quo and staying true to your personal style. The natural look is an effortless winner and the mystery behind who’s wearing it the true magnet!

4. If you could go back and assemble your Fashion Star team – mentor included – who would you pick and why?

I would pick exactly the same mentor, John Varvatos, and exactly the same team! In life, everything happens for a reason and I don’t question that!!!

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

Chocolate, hot water & internet!

20 Questions with Michael Buckley “What the Buck”

buck6

We have been huge fans of YouTube sensation Michael Buckley and his show “What the Buck” for such a long time that we were super excited when he agreed to do an interview with us.  Not only is Michael absolutely hilarious, he is also endearing, delightful, handsome and, well, just an all around nice guy.  His celebrity commentary is always right on mark and his ease and grace, while rolling his eyes and laughing, make him the perfect host to Hollywood stupidity.  During several of his videos, especially the one discussing the teen suicide of Jamey Rodemeyer, he has brought us to tears, feeling his true emotions as he shares them on the screen.  He has adorable taste in clothes and an impeccable sense for class and privacy.  Yep…we’re pretty much in love with Michael Buckley.  Check out what he had to tell us about his start on YouTube, his husband and his definition of sexy!

buck2

1. What motivated you to begin making videos on YouTube?

I started a public access show in my hometown to work on developing an on camera persona in 2005. In 2006, my cousin started putting clips of it on YouTube and it developed from there. I didn’t know what YouTube was the first few months. It seemed silly but fun so I kept posting.

2. What was the moment you knew you had made it on YouTube and how long did it take you to get there?

In Nov 2006, I had a hit video that had 200,000 views and that is when I knew that this could be something big. In the summer of 2007, I became a YouTube partner and started making money and was one of the top 20 users on the site. At that point, I knew I had made it. So it took about a year from when I first started.

3. What are the three biggest opportunities you have been able to experience as a result of your videos?

It’s funny because the things that seem like big opportunities like meeting celebrities and going to awards shows and things like that don’t feel like the biggest things to me. For me the biggest things have been 1. Being able to stay at home and make a living doing something I love. That is the single best part of all of this. 2. Getting to partner with brands for lucrative and fun sponsorships. 3. Being a figure skating fan and being What the Buck has thrust me into the skating community and I pretty much know every Figure Skater now and got to go to US Championships and do coverage for that. That was for me the most fun thing I have done because I love skating so much!

4. Who are your 3 favorite YouTubers to follow and watch their videos?

This is the dreaded question for all YouTubers. I love so many YouTubers and respect so many. It is very hard to pick 3 because I am friends with most of these people. My favorite YouTuber these days is Daily Grace. I just get joy and belly laughs watching her. I love and respect Phil Defranco for how he has turned his videos into a big business, same with Smosh. They and Phil nailed their YouTube careers! I also love watching iJustine; we are very good friends. I also love Shane Dawson, The Fine Brothers, Shay Carl, so many. I can’t name just three. And I love seeing younger gay people like Tyler Oakley and Lohanthony doing so well. I think they are going to save people’s lives simply by being themselves and so comfortable with their sexuality. They are a great asset to the site and the world.

5. What kind of camera and editing software do you use for your videos?

Panasonic HVX 2000 and Final Cut Pro.

 buck4

6. What is one question which is off limits for one YouTuber to ask another, but only YouTube insiders would know?

YouTubers are pretty open and chatty with each other. I have been asked everything. YouTubers tend to be private with the media but very open with each other. It is a great group of people to be a part of!

7. What is a topic too personal to discuss in your videos?

I would never violate my husband or my family or friends trust by speaking about anything that would affect their privacy. I don’t mind talking about myself but I try to shield my loved ones from over sharing.  I have cried a lot on camera and I have had good heart to hearts with my audience but I have been very protective of my privacy as well. But I am happy to share my own insight on pretty much anything.

8. What do you think are the 3 most powerful YouTube videos you ever made?

HAHA! I am not sure my videos would be described as powerful. Probably a simple video I made called ‘Why Wait To Be Happy’. I love that one and I watch it at least once a year just to remind myself to be happy! My “It Gets Better” video was well received. Another video that stands out is a video I made about TV Characters and how it’s nice you love them so much but you really need to calm down on Tumblr about Glee and Darren vs. Chris and stuff like that. The kids were freaking out on Twitter and Tumblr and I made a video and told them to close their laptops and take a deep breath. It was a helpful video for the kids who watch me to know I was seeing them derail and wanted to give them some positive and productive thoughts.

9. What are your 3 favorite videos you’ve made?

I did a Dance Battle video in 2008 that had over 200 YouTubers in it. That is my all-time fave. It has a great song that was my anthem at the time and it was just a great example of the fun the YouTube community was having!

I went backstage at the Glee tour in 2010 and got Heather Morris to say “What the Buck is a Gay Dolphin”.  That made me laugh for a solid year!

I had a fake fight with Ryan Higa that was a fun video because people really thought we were fighting and I had scripted this video. It was hilarious to watch it play out and we ended up doing a movie together and I tweeted a picture and people were like “I thought they were arch enemies”. It was funny.

10. What are 4 things about you we wouldn’t know by looking at you?

I am shorter than you think. People always think I am taller until they meet me. I must look tall on camera.

I am much less opinionated in real life than I am in my videos. In my videos, I call people out for behavior that in real life I have zero judgment on. What the Buck is very judgmental for humor. I am not at all.

I am very relaxed. When I am on camera, I am super hyper. When I am just hanging out, I get rowdy when I need to but in general I am very calm, peaceful, love napping! HAHA!

I grew up on Cape Cod and was stung by a jellyfish in 1989 and never went back in the ocean until 2011! Now I love it again.

  buck8

11. If you could only listen to 3 CD’s for the rest of your life and they couldn’t be mixed, who or what would they be?

Next to Normal, Aspects of Love, Scott Alan Live

12. You don’t talk much about your partner in your videos.  Is this a conscious choice and what would you like your fans to know about him?

Yes it is very conscious. I am happy for the world to know that I am married since 2002 to a very handsome, wonderful man! I have no interest to put him on camera or discuss my marriage. I think the track record of reality TV and relationships is not great and YouTube is eventually reality TV. I do not mind anyone saying things about me. I have no interest in comments on my marriage. Keeping some private life is good for my sanity and longevity on the site. I try to sneak in comments about him that are cute or I will tell some stories casually but there will be no videos documenting our life together. That is not of any interest to me.

13. Have you ever received fan mail or hate mail which has changed your perspective on the impact you have on your followers?

Hate mail has zero impact on me. I developed a phrase early on “Don’t let the praise go to your head or the hate go to your heart”. No one has ever said anything that has ever hurt my feelings. I don’t give it that power. But the nice things can make your day! I do know that the people who watch me tend to be sad or have home problems and I am grateful that they enjoy watching me and that I can make them smile.

14. How do you define sexy? Who is the sexiest celebrity? What is the sexiest city? Sexiest song? Sexiest movie? Sexiest hotel? Sexiest restaurant?

Sexy is such a funny word to be because I think I use it more as a joke than a compliment. Like someone will look not sexy and I will say “Sexy” so I am pretty sure my definition of sexy is sufficiently warped!

Sexiest City – New York City

Sexiest Song – It’s All Coming Back To Me Now –Celine Dion

Sexiest Movie – Showgirls #duh

Sexiest Hotel – I love W Hotels

Sexiest Restaurant – Taco Bell #duh

15. What are your thoughts about Dan Savage’s definition of monogomish marriages or relationships?

I had to Google it. HA! Hmmmmmm! I am not worried about other people’s relationships. Whatever works for them. Different things work for different people. As I mentioned before I am not really judgey in real life so whatever works for other people, good for them!

 buck7

16. What do you know now that you wish you had known at 16?

I am good not knowing things. I love surprises. I like watching my life unfold so I am grateful for not knowing too much back then. I guess I wish I knew I would not always be covered in pimples. I was pretty ugly and 16! HA!

17. What advice would you give to an aspiring YouTuber who wants some success from making videos?

Do it because you love it! Have passion and joy for the videos you are making. If you become rich or successful from it, great! But make sure you love it and enjoy the work and the process.

18. Who are your 3 favorite celebrities to talk about in your videos?

Kardashians – easy material always. One Direction – fun to watch their career going so well. Taylor Swift – equal parts fun to mock and celebrate!

19. What 5 dreams would you like to have accomplished in the next five years?

TV Show, Several Books Written, Do Stand Up, Return to Theatre, Renovate Kitchen

20. What are your three simple luxuries?

Napping! Cute Jeans! Miracle Blur by L’Oreal

Jiffy Wild from After Lately Gives Lessons on How To Walk in A Mini Skirt and Pumps! An Interview!

After Lately season 3

We love this guy! Regular Chelsea Lately Roundtable guest and writer, as well as cast member of After Lately, Jiffy Wild is one of the most recent editions to the group of late night comedians whose unremorseful humor has us bawling our eyes out, night after night. If you haven’t already encountered his uncontrollable wit and charm, check out what he had to tell us about the real Chelsea Handler, his cast mates and the sexiest place to kiss.

after lately1

1. Introduce yourself in 7 words or less.

Father, Husband, Writer, Actor, Music, Beer, Scared.

2. How is season 3 of After Lately different from the past two?

The first two seasons we really tested the boundaries between what felt too scripted and what was too much improv. So I think we found a healthy balance this season.  Everything’s scripted, and we stick to the story, but once you get into a scene and they call “action” it’s like all bets are off.  Chelsea could smack you in the face, and you’ll be like “wait that’s not written down anywhere…” But you just have to go with it.

3. What should we expect from the third season of After Lately?

Lots of guest stars – me doing a nude scene – awful people acting like assholes – it’s very high art.  But it’s incredibly funny and I’m so proud to be a part of it.  I just hope people see it.

4. If you could have your own spin off show, what would the title be and why?

Someday I’d love to do something with music and comedy.  I used to want to be a rock star. I was in bands my whole life, but failed miserably at it.  I guess I sucked. I do stand-up now, and I bring my guitar on stage with me and sing weird songs… it’s a work in progress.

5. Half of your cast, Sarah, Jen, Chuy and Heather, have published books.  Any chance we’ll see a book from you in the near future?

Books seem to drive everyone crazy.  I don’t know… I’d like to write one, but at the same time I’m like “who gives a shit about my life..?” And books seem like A TON of work, and I don’t know… I don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze.  But yes I’ll probably write one soon.

After Lately season 3

6. Let’s play fuck, marry, kill (out of these three names you have to pick who you’ll marry, fuck, and kill). Heather McDonald, Brad Wollack, and Chuy?

I’d fuck Heather because she’s a lady.  I’d marry Brad because he has the most money and he’d let me buy cool stuff, and I guess I’d kill Chuy because he’s the oldest.

7. How do you define sexy?

I think someone who knows who they are is sexy.

8. What do you think is the sexist City? Hotel? Club?? Place to kiss?

I don’t think of cities as being sexy… I always feel horny when I go wine tasting though.  Does that count?  As far as hotels go… I’m a father so ANY hotel is sexy.  Any place away from my house and the noisy toddler where my wife and I can be alone is sexy.  It doesn’t matter.  The Red Roof Inn does the trick.  I think the sexiest place to kiss is on the mouth.

9. Use one word to describe your After Lately cast mates:

A. Chelsea HandlerGenerous

B. Sarah ColonaPassionate

C. Ross MathewsGiddy

D. Heather McDonaldMotherly

E. Chris FranjolaFree

F. Brad WollackMentor

10. What’s one thing we don’t know about Chelsea Handler?

When my son was born Chelsea started a college fund for him… and she even puts money in it every year on his birthday.  Crazy, right?   She didn’t go to college herself, but I guess she thinks my kid should…  And that’s just tip of the iceberg.  I have no idea how many college funds she’s set up… She’s so crazy generous it makes me dizzy sometimes.  And she never talks about it.

after lately2

11. Do you ever ask your wife how to walk in a skirt?

At this point, I’m teaching her how to walk in a mini-skirt and pumps.

12. What’s your life like outside of the lately walls?

I’m embarrassingly domestic.  I love planting flowers, going on walks, and playing with my son. He loves Angry Birds.  I just bought a piano, because I wanted to learn how to play, but also my wife and I wanted our son to watch me play and then he’d be interested in playing too.  But it backfired because he hates when I play. I’m learning Elton John’s “Your Song” right now, and every time I start the first verse “It’s a little bit funny…” He always screams “It’s NOT FUNNY!” I’m learning Beethoven and Satie now… I’ve become obsessed.

13. What advice would you give to an aspiring comedian trying to make it in the business?

Well I consider myself to be an aspiring comedian, so I don’t know… It feels weird giving advice when I’m just starting out myself.  But I think you just have to DO IT… My first gig, Josh Wolf, booked me opening up for him in front of 500 people in Vegas… I had literally done like 5 open mics and was petrified.  I had to fill 20 minutes.  I told him “What if I blow it, and totally bomb, and ruin your entire show?” And he was like “Nothing you do up there is going to change what I do after you, or how I do.  I’m going to be fine.  So don’t worry, just have fun…”  I think he was basically saying – dude you ARE going to bomb but it doesn’t matter because I’m going to crush and the people will leave happy.  And that’s basically what happened.

14. What’s next for Jiffy Wild?

I’m doing more stand-up this year… I have another baby on the way.  I have a few ideas for other projects up my sleeve too. I kind of just go in the direction the wind takes me.  That sounds so hippy dippy.  But I really believe things started falling into place when I stopped trying to do things I wasn’t meant to do.  (ie being a rock star)  Quitting music was the hardest thing I had to come to terms with, but as soon as I did, this weird thing called comedy came into my life.

15. What are your three simple luxuries?

Beer, piano and family.

Thanks buddy!

Playing With Fire! Cast Interviews!

fire1

New York City is known for being one of the fashion capitals of the world. It’s known for the crazy amount of crime, the Upper East Side, Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, Gossip Girl and Sex and the City.  E! is introducing us to another world, another part of New York City that is just as competitive as the fashion world, as cut throat as the crime that roams the city, as polished as the Upper East Side, as sleepless as Times Square, as elegant as Lady Liberty, as busy as the traders on Wall Street and as incredibly dramatic as Gossip Girl and Sex and the City.  World…meet the culinary expertise of the new reality show Playing With Fire! Meet Anna Maria Boiardi, Julie Elkind, Candice Kumai, and Derek and Daniel Koch the cast of Playing with Fire, a new series airing Sundays on E! at 10-11pm E.T. And see what this culinary world of the restaurant scene is all about!

Playing with Fire - Season 1

Candice Kumai

firecandace

1. Describe yourself using only 7 words.

Fun. Witty. Charming. Empathetic. Loving. Honest. Creatively-Brilliant.

2. What is something you wouldn’t know about the NYC culinary scene?

It’s very, very intimate, close-knit-scene, (almost a club in its own right.) It’s wildly important to be hard-working, to be kind, to have the right intent. You can usually gauge if someone is successful (or going to be) upon first meeting. All of us work like dogs. If you don’t stay at the top of your A-Game, there are thousands of individuals right behind you ready to take you down. Survival, hard work and the right support is key.

3. What should we expect from you on Playing with Fire?

Have no expectations. Drop them. Allow yourself to be surprised and thrilled and captivated by the show, organically. The show is so well-produced with the most beautiful cinematography; the backdrop to the greatest city in the world is just enough to want to watch this show.

I am a mere writer. I am a solo business-woman trying to make each day count in the toughest-city-in-the-world. I am a former California-surfer-girl, a two-time author, a daughter, a friend, a boss, a client, a lover of beautiful things and people. I am Candice. An artist, a former model, turned philanthropist. I have a massive passion and deep love for food writing and improving others’ lives. I happen to have a “thing” for sunglasses, chocolate and shoes. You’ll have to watch the show to see more. After 10 years in this business, I’m finally opening up.

4. How do you define sexy?

Sexy is merely a perception, a point of view, from any-given individual. We all find different things to be sexy. Anything that plays with my five senses. That to me is sexy.
Someone who reads, is brilliant, funny-as-hell… that’s sexy; Having great arms and abs, that’s a total bonus.

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

1. An incredible, cozy night-in with someone I Iove. (This entails: Laughter, great conversation, chemistry, sushi, Champagne, and a bit more to burn off those calories.)
2- Dark chocolate
3- A nice cup of Japanese genmaicha tea (in my own bed), a really amazing book. Reading something that helps me acquire more knowledge to help others. And a call from my sister in London, or Mom and Dad in San Diego. Being able to stay in touch with my family and stay grounded, that’s the greatest luxury of all.

Anna Boiardi

fireanna

1. Describe yourself using only 7 words.

Nurturing, Creative, Enthusiastic, Passionate, Principled, Deliberate, Wanderlust.

2. What should we expect from you on Playing with Fire?

The balancing act of being an entrepreneur , a mother and wife all while trying to inspire people to cook.

3. What is something you wouldn’t know about the NYC culinary scene?

Something that surprised me was how much interest in learning to cook there is among  New Yorkers – we tend to think of the New York culinary scene as restaurant-based because we have so many incredible restaurants in New York.

4. How do you define sexy?

Mastery is seductive.

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

Handmade pasta, Cappuccino from Sant Ambroeus and Imported Burrata cheese found at DiPalos in Little Italy

Julie Elkind

firejulie

1. Describe yourself using only 7 words.

Creative, driven, bubbly, social, kooky, passionate, competitive

2. What should we expect from you on Playing with Fire?

On “Playing with Fire” you can expect to see me do everything I can in my creative power to grow as a chef and prove that in my industry age is only a number. You can also expect to see my boyfriend Kyle and I go through the growing pains and pleasures of serious relationship while trying to balance the growth of a serious career.  There’s also a lot of fun! Seeing my friends, shopping for my weakness…shoes…and a new home.

3. What is something you wouldn’t know about the NYC culinary scene?

Things most people don’t know or understand about the food scene is the pressure and the unglamorous moments that happen every day in real life versus what everyone sees on TV  and assumes about kitchens. They are HOT, vulgar, pressure cookers but if you love food and the job the way I do, you love everything about the stereotypical “boy’s clubhouse” that I call my home. Other things that people don’t know are that in my kitchens absolutely EVERYTHING is made by me and my staff. It breaks my heart when people are surprised that I make my own ice cream,  but it is also an eye opener to how little people who work outside the restaurant industry know about what goes on behind the kitchen doors. The best part about people not knowing is the opportunity to teach and educate about the fabulous career I indulge myself in as a chef.

4. How do you define sexy?

SMART is sexy to me. I am attracted to brain power and passionate intelligence. Common sense is also SUPER sexy to me. It seems these days it’s a rare trait to find because common sense is NOT common at all.

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

My luxuries: Shoe shopping, beauty days (spa days, hair styling) and running in Central Park and seamless web.

Derek Koch

firederek

1. Describe yourself using only 7 words.

Determined, Hard-working, Generous, Restless, Busy, Detailed, Restaurateur

2. What should we expect from you on Playing with Fire?

A real no holds barred view from inside. A better understanding of who I am as a person, what makes me tick, and what it takes to keep my businesses up and running amidst the challenges faced by small business owners across the country and the world. You’ll see both my serious side and hopefully my playful side as well.

3. What is something you wouldn’t know about the NYC culinary scene?

People often see the glamour and the celebration of life when they step in to restaurants. What they don’t see is the years it takes to get to the top. Often I liken it to an iceberg… what you see when you enter the culinary scene is only the tip.

4. How do you define sexy?

Confidence, style and the ability to carry oneself with dignity.

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

Good food, great wine and dinner at our restaurant for two.

Daniel Koch

firedaniel

1. Describe yourself using only 7 words.

Creative, Passionate, Risk Taker, Appreciative, Respectful, Caring

2. What should we expect from you on Playing with Fire?

A peek into what it takes to continuously stay ahead of the competition, delivering every creative juice I have while making the client feel like they are all that matters.

3. What is something you wouldn’t know about the NYC culinary scene?

It’s not about “build it and they will come”… it’s create something great, wow the client and keep them coming back for more.

4. How do you define sexy?

Being the best at your passion and making no apologies for striving for perfection.

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

An energy drink, my favorite soft t-shirt, central park.

The Verdugo Brothers! THE Interview!

verdugo brothers 6

The Verdugo Brothers are another amazing, brotherly dj duo! Unlike many other brother duos, they are the 1st American brother duo to have music on MTV.com! This twosome on the rise have shared the stage with Moby, Tiesto and many more.  They are currently working on their debut album, which will feature several styles of dance music including “tech-house, electro, progressive, down tempo, experimental pop and beyond”.  Although they’ve been around for awhile, already playing around the world and making a huge impact on the music scene, they are at the top of their game and gaining recognition for their unique sound which has brought them to the top.

vb1

1. Introduce us to the Verdugo Brothers in 6 words or less:

Positive, Humble, Creative, Funny, Passionate, and Determined.

2. What is something we wouldn’t know by looking at you both?

A lot of people aren’t sure what our ethnic background is so to end all confusion, we are half Mexican, half Korean. And we love the food!

The other thing that comes to mind is we used to be magicians. We did close-up & parlor magic for birthdays and private events. It has always been a fascination with us, so now we are currently working on bringing the magic back into our music.

3. How did your upbringing shape you guys into the DJs you are today?

One great thing about our upbringing was that we were exposed to a lot of different music, from Phil Collins,  Miami Sound Machine, to Sade, the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Depeche Mode.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Our sound is hard to categorize, although some will insist that we are this or that. What we really want people to know is, we love anything that makes us move, be it electro, trap, tech-house, minimal, progressive house or vocal house.  If we can “feel” it and it makes us want to move, then we will probably play it in our sets.

5. How were you guys introduced to the music industry?

Today, not too many know this about us, but we grew up in a small town in Northern California called Redding. There really wasn’t any industry for us to partake in, so we literally created our own. After going to LA & experiencing some real underground events there, we started organizing our own Raves in 1997 until about 2001. We built the EDM scene there from ground up and it resulted in some amazing events that really changed lives.

verdugo brothers 2

6. How has the EDM industry changed throughout your DJ-ing career?

A lot of things have changed, especially for DJs. We started with Technic turntables playing vinyl records. There was no “sync” button, so you had to learn to beat match. Today, you don’t. We miss those days, but we definitely don’t miss lugging around those heavy record bags. Things are much more convenient now and music is much more affordable. The music itself has evolved and changed of course. We’re really digging the Trap and dubstep genres. The outfits that people wear to many EDM events now are much more interesting though. Other than this, PLUR is still in full effect and we love that.

7. If you had to master a different music genre, which one would it be and why?

Well, we’ve been doing just that. We decided to produce & master our own Trap songs now because it is very bassline driven and fun to do. We really want to get good at mastering any type of music though. We believe it will only make us better.

8. Who has been your favorite musician to work with so far?

Probably, Austin Hall. It’s always impressive and inspiring to work with another producer who is as creative and talented as he is.  He’s got guys like Max Graham supporting his music, so it’s always inspirational to be in studio with people like that.

9. Walk us through your creative process.  How do you come up with your best tracks?

We usually start with drum programming. It’s important for us to pick the “right” Sounds, so choosing the right percussion is always key. From there we just audition other sounds like synths, etc. and things seem to fall into place. Sometimes the best melodies are created by accident, so you just have to stay in the process.

10. How do you define sexy?

We both think that the definition of “sexy” is subjective. But if we had to define it? We’d say that “sexy” is anything that is appealing to the eyes and/or ears.

vb2

11. What is the sexiest hotel? Club? City? Show? DJ? Song to kiss to?

There are so many amazing hotels like the W or Cosmopolitan, clubs, cities, DJs and songs. We just can’t make up our minds on this one..

12. What piece of advice would you give to a starting DJ?

Practice every day, maintain a positive attitude and market yourself once you think you are ready. Talent is just not enough to make it in this business.  Also, when “inspiration” doesn’t  find you? You have to find “it.”

13. Will there be a 2013 tour?

We’ve got a few shows in Northern Cali, but we are taking things on the road starting in April, where we will travel to Anchorage, Alaska to do a show with Sandra Collins, Frankie Bones and Nigel Richards to kick things off. We encourage the readers to visit our website(Click HERE) to keep up to date with our tour schedule.

14. What’s next for the Verdugo Brothers?

We are working on releasing an all original Trap EP for this summer for all you Bass lovers, as well as more music videos for our YouTube channel. We’re real excited about it because there’s always something fresh and new. We are always in the process.

15. What are your three simple luxuries?

Family, Music and Good Food.

Thanks Guys!

Chelsea Lately and After Lately’s Chris Franjola! THE Interview!

chrisf1

For the last several years, Chris Franjola has been a familiar face on the roundtable of Chelsea Lately, sharing his hilarious commentary on news stories and swapping laughter with his fellow comedians.  He has also helped write tons of the episodes and is also a cast member on the sister comedy; After Lately.  With over almost 20 years of experience in the business, there is no doubt that Chris has made a name for himself, both as a stand-up comedian and a member of one of the most memorable comedy shows in the history of television.  His humor seems effortless with an undertone of perfect nervousness.  We absolutely love his role as the “fool” under the spell of Chelsea Handler and love the willingness to go to any length for a laugh.  It is the art of true comedy value.  Chris Franjola not only makes us laugh, but proves that he will continue to make us laugh for quite some time!

chrisf2

1. If your career life, working for Chelsea Handler, were a movie title, which movie would you be?

Animal House

2. How were you introduced to the comedic world?

I was working as an electrician at the World Trade Center in New York and I started doing stand-up for fun after work.

3. Any surprises on the new season of After Lately?

I think you’ll be surprised at what an amazing actor I am.

4. How do you think this season compares to the past two seasons?

I think it’s our best season yet.  It looks much slicker.

chrisf3

5. If you had to pick, what would be your number one favorite thing about working for Chelsea Handler?

I actually truly enjoy everyone I work with everyday.

6. Let’s play marry, fuck, kill (out of the following three names you have to pick who you would marry, kill, or fuck) Chuy, Ross Mathews, Heather McDonald?

Fuck Heather, marry Ross and if I married Ross I think Chuy would die of a heart attack so I’m good.

7. How do you define sexy?

Confidence and the right touch of Jean Nate’.

8. What do you think is the sexiest City? Hotel? Club? Drink? Comedian? Place to kiss?

I love New York City.  If you can ignore the scent of urine it can be one sexy city. If you are sexy- you’re not a comedian. I love the Standard Hotel Meatpacking District in NYC. Because of 9 ½ Weeks milk has become kind of a sexy drink (whole milk-not 2%). I have had a few sexy nights at Marquis in the Cosmopolitan in Vegas. Sexiest place to kiss is definitely on the private parts.

chrisf4

9. Use one word to describe your After Lately cast mates:

a. Chelsea Handler  – Quick

b. Sarah Colona Hilarious

c. Ross MathewsWonderful

d. Heather McDonald Great

e. Jiffy Wild Solid

f. Brad WollackGreat laugher – I know it’s two words but he really is a great laugher.

10. What’s one thing we wouldn’t know by looking at you?

I love Broadway

11. If you could write for anyone else in the business, who would it be and why?

Conan O’Brien. I think I have the tone of what that show is all about.

12. What’s the number one rule for online dating?

Make sure your picture is good. Nobody cares if you like mountain climbing when you look bad in your bikini picture.

chrisf5

13. What advice would you give to a comedian trying to make it in the industry?

Keep doing it.  It’s the one show business job where tenacity truly pays off.

14. What’s next for Chris Franjola?

I’m hoping my hair gets a little grayer and I can start doing Cialis commercials.  I love sitting in a tub in the woods.

15. What are your three simple luxuries?

My car, microwavable rice, and I love, love, love hammocks- not banana- regular hammocks.

The Face! THE Cast Interviews!

face1

We were huge fans of The Face even before it aired on Oxygen exactly a month ago today.  Imagine our immense bliss when we discovered the coaches were three of our all time favorite supermodels; Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova! We were even more excited when we found out that Nigel Barker, famed photographer and judge on America’s Next Model, was the host.  It also didn’t hurt that two of the contestants were girls we already knew quite well.  We had recently named Ebony Smith as the Sexiest Woman in 2012 in Indianapolis on our annual Sexy List and Brittany Mason had been a long-time friend who also officiated our wedding less than two years ago in Las Vegas! Needless to say, we were ready for the show to begin!

Since that first night, we have loved watching the coaches develop relationships with their girls and give them great advice, whether they win or lose.  And although we had some favorites before the show began, we’ve each found favorites of our own as the show has progressed! The raw vulnerability of both the contestants and the coaches has made us instant fans! Find out what the girls had to say below about their experiences on the show, who they thought was their stiffest competition and who was the toughest judge!

face2

Aleksandra Dubrovskaya

facealeksandra

1.  If you were a movie, what would be your title?

I would be the girl from the country who wouldn’t back down. That’s who I really am.

2.   How were your introduced to the world of modeling?

I won a local beauty pageant in my home town and the prize was a contract with a big agency in Moscow.

3.  How do you define sexy?

Sexy is not only physical and how someone looks on the outside its also about feeling good inside confident and having positive energy.

4.  Who is your biggest competition in the house and why?

Margaux had a great unique look and was very focused I thought she would be hard to beat.

5. Who was the toughest judge on the panel? What is something important you learned from them?

Naomi was probably the toughest judge because she was intimidating and demanding.  I learned that with hard work and determination I can be successful in this industry.

Jocelyn Chew

facejocelyn

1.  If you were a movie, what would be your title?

The honest girl that loves sharks.

2.  How were your introduced to the world of modeling?

Since I was around 11 years old I had a dream of modeling. I just went after my dream myself!

3.  How do you define sexy?

I think there’s a lot of different ways to define sexy, and a lot of ways to show sexy. To me, the most important part is your confidence in yourself. I think self-confidence is really sexy.

4.  Who is your biggest competition in the house and why?

I don’t want to compare myself to 11 other girls that are nothing like me. I think the biggest challenge will be within myself… living with 11 other girls while maintaining my sanity… keeping my composure, and not forgetting to keep my eye on the prize!

5.  Who was the toughest judge on the panel? What is something important you learned from them?

The toughest judge on the panel for me was Naomi Campbell. Not just because Naomi was my coach but because she has tough love. Also, I didn’t spend much time with the other judges. Naomi really understands me as a person, and knows that she needs to be a little hard on me to help me reach my full potential. She’s amazing!

Madeline Armstrong

facemadeline

1. If you were a movie, what would be your title?

The Girl Who Dared To Dream (So corny haha)

2. How were your introduced to the world of modeling?

I was scouted when I was 15, whilst I was shopping with my mum. I had just returned from a school camp and was tired and wearing sweatpants, definitely not looking my best! When the lady asked if I was a model, I laughed in her face!

3. How do you define sexy?

Sexy is being confident. As cliche as it sounds, it’s an absolute necessity. But there is a huge difference between being sure of yourself and being a show pony. I think you need to find what it is about yourself that makes you special, whether it’s a skill or being a goofball (which is a skill in my books!) and own it.

4. Who is your biggest competition in the house and why?

I am really not a competitive person, (which I know seems crazy considering I’m on a competitive show) but I always try to focus on myself and what I could do better, as opposed to what someone else did or didn’t do. I find it’s less negative and hindering to yourself as a person, which ultimately will get you further. Not the juiciest answer I know, but it’s true!

5. Who was the toughest judge on the panel? What is something important you learned from them?

I’m sure everyone would be expecting this answer to be Naomi, and don’t get me wrong, she is a tough cookie! But Coco surprised me (in a good way) by how tough she was. She taught me that it’s ok to have your own beliefs, your morals that you won’t budge on no matter who wants you to, and still be successful. Our industry is not always the kindest or most accepting, so I really admire that in her, and will make sure to remember and apply it to my own career.

Margaux Snell

facemargaux

1. If you were a movie, what would be your title?

If I were a movie my title would be “The Unexpected Girl”. At first glance people think I’m very down to earth, quiet, kind of shy, and I am all of those things. I mostly keep to myself and only speak when spoken to at jobs, at least until I’m really comfortable around people, but the second I get in front of the camera that all changes. I feel free when I model. I like to move around, create a lot of expressions, and do quirky poses. I guess I like to “play” when I model. There is definitely a whole other side of me that people only get to see when I’m working. I guess I’m just really passionate about what I do, and I kind of have to be since I’ve been doing it for almost nine years.

2. How were your introduced to the world of modeling?

My mom heard an ad on the radio when we lived in Georgia, for agency looking for “child models”. Growing up people had always told her I should model, so she took me in. They loved me and I started working right away. She would drive me to castings an hour away from home to Atlanta and I would do photo shoots for Target, JCPenney, and Neiman Marcus when I was only 9 years old.

3.  How do you define sexy?

I think “sexy” is confidence. It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing seven layers of clothing or absolutely nothing, as long as you’re confident it will show, and I think that is extremely sexy! I myself have had times where I’m still a little nervous when I model but it has nothing to do with how I look or what I’m wearing. I’m usually more affected by the people around me on set and the “vibe” they are giving off. If I have a good, respectful, fun crew it makes the job 100 percent easier and more enjoyable because I can feel comfortable about just being myself.

4. Who is your biggest competition in the house and why?

Hmmm… that’s a good question. I would have to say Zi Lin and Devyn. They’re both stunning, obviously, all the girls in the house are, but it’s mostly because they are so TALL! They tower over me! Also, Devyn can be very strong which is intimidating at times and Zilin’s walk is like nothing I’ve ever seen!

5. Who was the toughest judge on the panel? What is something important you learned from them?

Well none of the women are “judges”, they’re called “coaches”, and the toughest out of all of them is Naomi Campbell by far. She knows what she wants, and what it takes to make it in this industry, but I think she also just really wants to win, and wants her team to do well. At times I think she lashes out at the contestants and other coaches only because she is SUPER competitive, not just for the sake of being mean.

Sandra Woodley

facesandra

1. If you were a movie, what would be your title?

The movie would be about my life. How I started from the bottom making my way to the top.

2. How were your introduced to the world of modeling?

Started out doing fashion shows within my community.

3. How do you define sexy?

Being confident in your own skin.

4. Who is your biggest competition in the house and why?

I was my biggest competition. Being hard on myself sometimes I feel like I’m my worst critic.

5. Who was the toughest judge on the panel? What is something important you learned from them?

I would say Naomi Campbell, but I take it as constructive criticism..Naomi has a lot of experience in the industry so I definitely trust and believe everything she told me.

Luo Zi Lin

faceluo

1. If you were a movie, what would be your title?

The girl who believes Life is a Choice.

2. How were your introduced to the world of modeling?

It is always something I wanted to do.

3. How do you define sexy?

Personality, heart and body need to be charming! Independent and work hard.

4. Who is your biggest competition in the house and why?

Myself! I’m quiet shy, sometimes I’m feeling lonely and I don’t trust myself can do well.

5. Who was the toughest judge on the panel? What is something important you learned from them?

Hehe, Naomi of course! Sometimes I will feel so afraid to talk to her! I look up to her but I really can learn a lot from her! Especially I knew how hard working she did!

1. If you were a movie, what would be your title?

Little Fish, High-Fashion Pond.

2. How were your introduced to the world of modeling?

Trying out for The Face was my first venture into the world of modeling. Other than that I’ve always been a fan of fashion, models, and magazines!

3. How do you define sexy?

Confidence is sexy (cliche, I know but really). You don’t necessarily have to show skin to be sexy. To me it’s about leaving a little bit to the imagination.

4. Who is your biggest competition in the house and why?

Pretty much every girl is my biggest competition! I’m just trying to survive out here and hopefully get to a point where I thrive. Not easy going up against so many talented ladies!

5. Who was the toughest judge on the panel? What is something important you learned from them?

I would say Naomi is definitely a tough judge. She doesn’t take crap from anyone and she definitely doesn’t like to see weakness. I learned there’s no room for nonsense if you want to go far. Be impervious to what people say and keep moving!

1. If you were a movie, what would be your title?

Where There Is No Struggle, There Is No Strength.

2. How were your introduced to the world of modeling?

I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a model, but didn’t get into modeling until much later on. My mom was very adamant that education was my top priority.

3. How do you define sexy?

I think that confidence and intelligence are sexy.

4. Who is your biggest competition in the house and why?

I definitely felt that Zi Lin was my biggest competition. She has years of experience and one of the most incredible catwalks I’ve ever seen.

5. Who was the toughest judge on the panel? What is something important you learned from them?

Naomi was the toughest judge in my opinion. She is very blunt and straight to the point. If she feels a certain way, she will let it be known. I learned that you can’t take things personally; you have to listen to what the judges say and use it as constructive criticism.

1. If you were a movie, what would be your title?

The Girl Who Defied All Odds

2. How were your introduced to the world of modeling?

I remember looking at all of my moms magazines when I was a little girl. Especially Victoria’s  Secret, I would look at the magazines over and over again just daydreaming of possibilities. I thought the girls in the magazine embodied the kind of woman I wanted to become someday. I also fell in love with fashion and the artistic side of photography. (I’ve always been an artist, drawing, painting, writing, etc) I realized a career in modeling could be my ticket to leave my small hometown and live the life I wanted. I was clueless on how to start modeling and I didn’t know anything or anyone in the industry. But at a young age, I had a lot of passion, and determination. I developed an entrepreneur mind and all I knew was if I wanted to model I would need photos and experience in front of the camera. I began to do a lot of homework and research. At 15 I was working  my first job at an old restaurant called Penguin Point in my hometown for $5.15 an hour. I was named employee of the year and a photographer had to take my picture for the restaurant. I took the opportunity to ask him to take more photos of me. I then began contacting local wedding photographers and asked them to do the same, gaining more experience in front of the camera, trying to build a portfolio. I also took a makeup and photography class to give gain more of an advantage. At 16 I signed with my first agency and that’s when I ventured off to NYC to turn my dream on becoming a fashion model in to a reality!

3. How do you define sexy?

Sexy to me is all about confidence. Confidence in who you, the way you look, and your presence. If you have something “odd”, “unique”, or maybe even something you feel is your weakness…turn it in to a strength and use it. You have to be comfortable in your own skin and own what God has given you. When you do that you naturally embody and project a sexiness that is captivating and cannot be ignored.

4. Who is your biggest competition in the house and why?

That is hard to say who is the “biggest” competition. There is a lot of competition in the house and we are all different types of models with very different looks that are appealing to different clients. I do have to say I absolutely love my team and I couldn’t have picked a better group of girls. But, this is a competition and when you lose you have to make sure you are the best on your team so you are not the one sent in the elimination room. It really is an interesting dynamic because you are working together as a team but still competing against one another. So if I have to choose anyone it would be someone from my team. Aside from myself I think Margaux is the strongest model from Team Coco.

5. Who was the toughest judge on the panel? What is something important you learned from them?

The toughest judge hands down is Naomi! They are all critical because the stakes are high but Naomi is one of the most competitive and passionate people I have ever met. I mean come on, we are talking about the legendary Naomi Campbell here! She wants to win! I learned a lot from my entire experience on the show. I have an immense amount of respect for Naomi and all of the things she has accomplished in her life. I feel a new found strength within myself after working with her. I am so grateful and feel humbled that I was handpicked to be part of this show and to be working with three major icons that I have always admired. I hope to make Indiana proud!

Ebony Smith

1. If you were a movie, what would be your title?

So my guy nicknamed me babycakes because I’m obsessed with my bum so it would be “babycakes tackles the world”.

2. How were your introduced to the world of modeling?

I was actually introduced through dancing. I started at an early age modeling for a dance wear magazine.

3. How do you define sexy?

Sexy definitely has to come from your inner confidence. By that I mean knowing that you are amazing but not always throwing it in the air. When you are confident people automatically associate that with sex appeal.  Well I do anyway.

4. Who is your biggest competition in the house and why?

I have two; Margaux and Devyn. Both of them are fierce and aren’t going to just settle for second best.

5. Who was the toughest judge on the panel? What is something important you learned from them?

I’d have to say Naomi was the most intimidating.  All of the coaches are tough. But all in all I learned to have thick skin!

Devyn Abdullah

1. If you were a movie, what would be your title?

“The life of a perfect imperfection”

2. How were your introduced to the world of modeling?

I was introduced to the modeling world by the lovely woman that scouted me; my personal friend and mentor, casting director Karen Lee.

3. How do you define sexy?

Sexy to me are people that are both humble and original. It’s something that I’ve always been attracted to. There’s nothing more sexy then someone that is so humble and secure with themselves that they don’t give a damn what anyone thinks, making being original look so easy.

4. Who is your biggest competition in the house and why?

So far I think Zi Lin and Ebony are biggest competition in the house for me. Seriously look at Zi Lin she freakin gorgeous lol….and on top of that she’s one of the only girls in the house that is closest to my height.  She’s the second tallest girl in the house with me being the first. Its like she seems to already be programmed for it, having so much experience in pageants. And With Ebony I know the power of being a mother and how much determination and motivation it puts in you. Ebony has to be a strong and willing woman for her to be raising two children on her own. It’s something that I can relate to with her but, knowing this I also know I need to look out for her.

5. Who was the toughest judge on the panel? What is something important you learned from them?

I would say Naomi Campbell is the hardest coach on the panel. She plays the role of the tough mommy. She wants to see you succeed and be the best you can be so she gives you that tough love if you don’t.

I’ve learned that being a model is more then being a pretty face and taking pretty pictures. It’s something that you have to study, you must study you angles what looked best on you face and your proportions, you must always be presentable, and most of all you must know learn and network in the modeling industry. It’s not just about booking the jobs you must study the photographer who’s shooting the gig. what his style of shooting is? Get an idea of what type of vibe you need to latch on to during the shoot. Or if you book a fashion show research the designer know what he or she looks like so you can introduce yourself and build a business relationship with them and etc.

1. If you were a movie, what would be your title?

“The Ambassador of Kickyourassador”

2. How were your introduced to the world of modeling?

I was 13 and a shop owner came up and asked me to model dresses for her shop. I also used to black out the teeth of the models in the JC Penny catalog with a marker.  That’s the earliest reference I have.

3. How do you define sexy?

Drummer in a rock band?

4. Who is your biggest competition in the house and why?

Zi Lin.  She is literally the biggest – like 6’2″ or something….

5. Who was the toughest judge on the panel? What is something important you learned from them?

The toughest judge was Naomi.  She doesn’t sugar coat anything and will tell you exactly what she thinks. She’s an honest person and I respect her so much for it. She taught me to be more confident in myself and my abilities.

Vanderpump Rules - Season 1

Lisa Vanderpump has not only created an  incredibly,  beautiful restaurant and bar- lounge in West Hollywood.  She has also hand selected a group of servers who are sexy and add  to the ambiance of the restaurant.  Below the surface of all of this beauty is a trench of relationship problems, lost dreams and tense arguing.  Drama…reality style! What else would anyone expect from a group of attractive 20-somethings, working and playing together while aspiring to break into the highly competitive entertainment industry in Hollywood.  Welcome to the world of the highly praised, reality show Vanderpump Rules, on Bravo!

This season, there were fights, name calling, tears, drinks thrown and of course, tons of sex appeal, all at the tutelage of the classiest and sexiest teacher ever, Lisa Vanderpump.  We wanted to find out all of the facts “behind the scenes” from the cast members themselves.  Check out what Scheana, Stassi, and Katie have to say about Lisa, themselves and their experiences on the show!

Scheana Marie

Vanderpump Rules - Season 1

1. Introduce yourself in 7 words or less.

Giving, loving, friendly, humble, family oriented and trusting.

2. How would your life be without Lisa’s rules?

Without Lisa’s rules my life wouldn’t be as exciting. Lisa is like a second mother to me. She’s always here when I need her and I respect and look up to her. Life wouldn’t be the same without her rules!

3. How do you define sexy?

Sexy to me is confidence. Nothing is sexier than knowing what you have but not being arrogant.

4. What is your life like outside of filming?

Life off camera is pretty much the same. I hang with everyone on a regular basis and when I’m not with my friends I’m with my bf Shay hanging at home, watching tv, sipping some beers, drinking wine, working on music or literally working.

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

3 simple luxuries to me are a phone, make up and liquid soap. I hate using bars haha!

Stassi Schroeder

Vanderpump Rules - Season 1

1. Introduce yourself in 7 words or less.

Passionate, assertive, protective, tenacious, loyal…. dramatic.

2. How would your life be without Lisa’s rules?

Well, thank GOD for Lisa’s rules. If I didn’t have her busting my balls and keeping me in check, I’d probably be in jail. That’s a joke…. Or is it?

3. How do you define sexy?

So many things are sexy. A beautiful gown, the heel of a stiletto, the way someone walks, the sound of your loved one’s voice. Sexiness is everywhere. But I think the sexiest thing is confidence. When you’re confident in who you are, there is nothing sexier.

4. What is your life like outside of filming?

Um, exactly the same.

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

Face masks, jewelry, wine.

Katie Maloney

Vanderpump Rules - Season 1

1. Introduce yourself in 7 words or less.

Don’t mistake my kindness for weakness.

2. How would your life be without Lisa’s rules?

Lisa has set the bar high. After all she has a long standing reputation to up hold and doesn’t except anything less than par. It offers me structure and the need to maintain a strong work ethic. Knowing someone expects a certain level of discipline and professionalism lends itself to other areas of work in my life. She is a great influence!

3. How do you define sexy?

For me sexy isn’t the obligatory way of dress or a specific action. It’s some innate in all of us that we have to hone in on. I think confidence is very sexy, but not cockiness. My boyfriend for example is someone who is so comfortable in his own skin. He has such a huge sense of self. He also makes me laughter. A witty sense of humor is uber sexy.

4. What is your life like outside of filming?

It’s pretty much exactly what you see! I hang out with everyone on the cast daily. Obviously you see me at work as well. That’s what I love about our show, it really IS our lives and the audience really has a voyeuristic point of view watching.

5. What are your three simple luxuries?

Well, being not being the most luxurious person, or not being able to afford a luxurious lifestyle. I find luxury in simple things such as, a good bottle of wine, my boyfriend bringing me breakfast in bed and the occasional pampering I can give myself.
