Each year, fashion becomes a little more personal, a little more individualized and a little more, should we say, overwritten.  These days, everyone has an opinion about fashion and everyone seems to think they’re right.  But the wonderful thing about fashion and style is the ability to discover yourself through what makes you feel good about yourself and what seems to express your inner soul.  Years ago, long before Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen stole the market on homeless chic, we knew a girl who wore fifty bracelets on her arms with a gold Rolex…Vintage Blondie and The Smiths tees over long, Tibetan skirts…with Chuck Taylors cut off at the top.  Her hair, which always had some kind of feather or braid assemblage, fell in natural, blonde curls with pieces underneath highlighted with black and brown.  She…was…gorgeous.  Her sense of comfortable style which allowed herself to be free only released her soul and allowed others to see on the outside what she felt on the inside.  Happiness.

The fact that she could throw on a white silk blouse, black suit and pull all that wild hair back in a classy chignon made her all the more appealing and desirable.

In the past, women had better outlets than men to express their style…but today, men have options too! We’ve picked just a few of our favorite Spring items this year.

And floral shorts on men…lots of floral on men.  Get ready…this summer, men’s street fashion is going to look like Lana Del Rey ate men up and spit them out in cut off jean shorts, PBR tees and floral shirts crowned with longer, greasy, messy hair…we can’t wait! Lana…is the next huge style icon! Period.

You either love him or hate him.  But either way, he is the Oprah of pop culture.  If Oprah has the ability to pick future politicians…Perez Hilton has the intense ability to put his thumbprint on the next big icon of pop culture.  In the past, he’s been an easy target for counter attacks due to his varying “stylistic” looks, which are questionable, at best, of having any style at all.

But in the last year, those following Perez, via his blog or Twitter, have noticed a focus on gym time and an incredible dedication to improving his physical appearance.  For those that saw the premiere of his reinvented look at LOGO TV’s New Next Now Awards, Perez looked like some kind of over-tanned Ken doll, apparently making a statement…not just displaying fashion.  Well…we would have much rather that statement have been made in a white v-neck tee and a pair of rustic jeans and chucks.  It’s undeniable that Perez has questionable style and his outfit by The Blonds nods in the same direction.  Nonetheless, a little less tan…and Perez looks absolutely incredible. Handsome.  Masculine.  Happy.

More important than the outfit was the statement, found on his website, “We’ve worked soooo hard to get to where we are today, and we are feeling soooooooo good these days! YOU can do it too!  You can! Do it! Do it! Do it!!!!”

In a world saturated by obesity and unhealthy body issues, Perez is an example of healthy living, contributing positivity to pop culture…probably his best achievement yet.  We’re impressed Perez! And thank you…for encouraging us by being humble enough to admit your struggle…yet confident enough to show off your success.  That…is truly sexy!

We thought we’d take a look at Perez over the years and visit his many looks.  It’s obvious that today…he wears happy very well!

By the way…your hair looks the best its every looked!

We love horror movies.  We might even go as far as saying we’re obsessed with horror films.  Some of our favorites are The Collector, The Stangers and all of the Halloween films.  Being that it is Friday the 13th, we thought it was only fitting to track the history of the look of one of the horror genres most famous killers…Jason Vorhees from Friday the 13th.  Although it doesn’t lend much to the style genre, where would deconstruction or punk fashion be without ripped jeans and flannels from running through the woods, chased by a serial killer?

There were a total of 10 Jasons…Ari Lehman, Warrington Gillette, Steve Daskewisz, Richard Brooker, Ted White, Tom Morga, C.J. Graham, Kane Hodder, Ken Kirzinger and Derek Mears.

 

Here is a picture at a Jason Voorhees Reunion in 2009.  The boy, who played Jason in Friday the 13th(2009 film) is Caleb Guss.  The other actors, from left to right, are: Derek Mears, C.J, Graham, Warrington Gillette, Dick Wieand(who played Roy Burns who goes on a killing spree dressed as Jason Vorhees) and Derek Mears.

So what happened to the other Jasons?

Who’s That Girl???  How does one even begin to compare and contrast Madonna’s looks through the years.  She has changed so many times and so often, who could possibly keep up.  No one! That’s exactly why she’s always been at the top of her game! To us, the memories of her looks are more like a teenager’s wall collage of their favorite magazine clippings…We even included a little honorary subliminal message nodding to the question Madonna has been posing to her fans for years!

So…Who’s That Girl?  Shhh…It’s A Secret…We may never know!

If you know of our obsession with fashion and models, especially the lives behind the camera and runway, and our obsession with Jean-Paul Gaultier, in part due to our dear comrade Velvet D’Amour(check out our interview) making fashion history by walking in his show, then you’ll understand why we’re picking Andrej Pejic as our first model to be hosted in The Role Model.  Andrej walked in Gaultier’s men’s and women’s fashion shows in January 2011.  He again walked in both shows for MICHALSKY in July of 2011…and we have loved him ever since. Loved is even putting it mildly.  Obsessed.  Adoring.  Blushing.

Andrej Pejic, who won the Beyond Style award earlier in the week at LOGO TV’s New Now Next Awards, is a 20 year old, Australian androgynous male model who defies boundaries and is a pioneer in today’s fashion frontier.  While to many,  his androgyny is new and confusing, to others it is a renaissance of previous ideas of Marlene Dietrich and Calvin Klein…pumped up to the volume of fashion frenzy.

Andrej Pejic is the future of fashion.

Too controversial for most US conservative minds, in May of 2011, bookstores Borders and Barnes and Noble, covered his cover of Dossier Journal with a sleeve so shoppers wouldn’t be offended if confused and mistake the picture for a topless women.  Hey folks…Borders is gone…Andrej is still here!

Andrej was born in Bosnia, fled with his mother to Serbia to live in a refugee camp and moved to Melbourne as political refugees when he was 8 years old.  Today he finds himself walking runways and hyping up controversy in bookstores on the verge of their demise.  Not bad for 20 years old.  Needless to say, we feel Andrej is here to stay and has a lot more to do.  After all, let’s not forget the powerful scene in The Devil Wears Prada in which Miranda Priestly explains to Andy what the color blue represents, not only to the fashion world, but the world at large.

Andrej is today’s blue.

We’re really not sure why but outtakes of a photo shoot that Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence did in 2010 for Esquire UK are disappearing from all over the web.  The photographs, like the one seen above from magxone.com, are so incredibly amazing we can’t understand why she would want them down.  Maybe because they don’t fit in with the innocent charm of Katniss Everdeen? We don’t care.  We love them and think they’re amazing.

But after looking at these photos from two years ago, we wondered what she looked like in her earlier days.

Awwww…Maybe not the stunning beauty she is today, seen on the right, but still a cutie patootie all the same!

We love ya darlin! Own that sexiness and don’t be ashamed of those photographs! We all wish we could look so good!

Looking at Kate Winslet today, in her campaign for the 2012 St. John Spring Collection, it’s difficult to remember a time when she was floating and freezing on a slab of driftwood only big enough for herself, leaving poor Leo to drown in the icy depths of the Atlantic.  These days, she has slimmed down and become quite a regal beauty, now serving as the Queen of St. John herself.

But it wasn’t always that easy to look stern and gorgeous, was it Kate?

We dug deep into the internet archives and pulled out Kate’s glamorous look of yesteryear…1991 to be exact, when she guest starred in a little known series called Dark Season.

Oh my! You have come a long, way baby! We’re strong believers that beauty and sexiness is plentiful in those gracing confidence, leading us only to believe that her Academy Award for The Reader, her six Oscar nominations and many other awards have given her a little bit more gumption to walk down the street and feel proud of herself.  Way to go girl! You should be proud…not only for looking absolutely amazing, but for proving to women all over the globe, that even in Hollywood, women do become more gorgeous as they get older!
