Lady Gaga for President! Marriage Equality Now!

This Saturday, August 25th 2012, will be our one year wedding anniversary.  But we still have no legal documentation identifying us as a legally married couple in the United States.  For the last year we’ve defended our reasons for getting married, but the bottom line is that we were unwilling to wait for the United States government to validate our love for each other.  Having both had extremely close family members who’s lives were cut short, we realized the brevity of life and wanted to make this commitment to each other in front of our friends and family, to validate our love to each other. But as much as that meant to us, and still does, it still feels like we were given yesterday’s hand me downs.

Ok, enough is enough.  We’re done playing nice.  For the last year we’ve watched other states pass the legalization of same sex/gay marriage but the reality is that until it is a federal law, same sex couples will not be truly equal.

There should be no discussion.  There should be no this or that.  The fact is simple.  Enough is enough! It is time for marriage equality now.  No excuse or conversation in the world will convince us that we deserve any less or should wait any longer.  We’re starting to wonder if the United States people realize how much power gays and lesbians really have in this country.  Just to show a small example, let’s compare Twitter accounts of some major power players.  Mitt Romney has just under 900,000 followers.  Perez Hilton has well over 5 million.  President Obama has almost 19 million…and Lady Gaga has almost 29 million.  We’d hate to see what would happen if Lady Gaga ran for president.  Maybe it’s time for a change! Do you think we’d even be entertaining this ridiculous discussion if she was seated in the Oval office.

While we realize that Twitter is a simplified example of where the power stands in the United States, the truth is that if exercised correctly, gays and lesbians could change the direction of this country…for the better.  Why do we have to sit back and listen to lectures on family values when we’re simply trying to become a family.  It’s really not that deep.

Why are we so scary to everyone?

Because we’re really dangerous, aren’t we?

In the next few months we are going to make some rather strong stands to bring forth equality! The time is now…

Be Yourself.  Be Fearless.  Be Your Own Unexpected Luxury!
