Going Commando with the Douche Slayer!

db

Recently, after several phone calls and emails, the boys of raannt were able to get a few moments with the Douche Slayer, from IndyDouchebags.com to ask him a few questions. Here’s what we found out…

1. What name would you like us to use for the interview?
Douche Slayer will suffice.

2. What is exactly is the job description for a “douche slayer”?
I slay douches.

3. What is a movie that has greatly impacted your life?
Richard Pryor: Live at the Terrace Theater in Long Beach, CA.

4. A song you want played at your funeral?
The theme from the A Team.

5. The doucheiest place in Indy?
It’s close, but the ass clown promoters at BLU give it the edge.

6. Are douche bags born or made?
Researchers at Harvard are close to isolating the Ed Hardy gene, which may change our understanding of these poor creatures. But right now, absent concrete, empirical evidence, I would have to say that they are made.

7. If you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life and it couldn’t be a mixed CD, what would it be?
TOOL: Aenima.

8. What is the last book you read and what are you currently reading, if any?
Tom Clancy’s, The Bear and the Dragon (for the 10th time)

9. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being extremely douchey, how douchey are the boys of raannt?
0. They are too comfortable in their own skin to be douche bags.

10. What are your plans for Halloween and will you be wearing a costume?
I am going out as a douche bag. Ed Hardy, stunna shades, dog tags, forearm sweatbands, cocked ball cap and all. Then i am going to come home and shower for a day or so…

11. What was your favorite television show when you were growing up?
Cheers.

12. Any background information you want to supply us?
My writing paints an accurate picture of my psyche. The Douche Slayer is a pseudonym, not a character. It is me.

13. You said on an interview with Kim Iverson that you would not be anonymous for much longer…is that still the case, and why?
I have revealed myself to my victims so that they might seek proper retribution. In true douche bag form, they don’t. Woof, woof, little doggie…

14. Favorite Drink?
Newcastle.

15. Sexiest place in the world?
Pamplona during San Fermin (Running With the Bulls). It oozes testosterone, adrenaline and sex.

16. Most un-douchey place in Indy?
Slippery Noodle.

17. Who are three local celebrities you actually find somewhat interesting?
Pass.

18. What did you want to be when you were 16?
A breast.

19. If someone were really looking for you in public, what would be a sure tell sign of how to find you, without completely giving it away?
A trail of slayed douches in my wake.

20. Long or short showers?
Baths.

21. Boxers, Briefs, Jockstrap, Nothing…Bra?…
Commando. I haven’t owned any draws since i was 18.

Thanks Mr. Douche Slayer…Talk to you soon!

E-E-Emcee…

142

Another amazing aspect of The Midwest Fashion Week was that Stacy Paetz, commentator for the Pacer’s, was the second emcee of the Spectrum Fashion Show at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. Her tone and elegance added to the entire vibe of the second half of the show. We just wanted to congratulate Stacy on doing a wonderful job and add that it was awesome to meet her back stage, where she was extremely courteous and engaging. The evening gown she wore was by Antonio Fermin and her hair was done by Laura Symons of Salon 01 in Carmel.

We Make No Apologies…

082

As we walked into the iSorry Party last Friday night, we joked that our title to this post might be “iSorry We Came”, because it appeared to be absolutely dead. The party was held at the 8 Second Saloon on the westside, with local DJ’s in the main room and national DJ’s in a side room, where we spent the majority of the evening.

There’s not really tons to say, except that the music was absolutely amazing…JJ Flores, Steve Smooth and Donald Glaude provided electro-pulsating vibrations all night long, with local drummer and raannt favorite, Joe Meltdown, providing rhythms to their mixes…Transic go-go dancers and beat movers made the entire evening electric, and we wish we could have stayed for the entire evening!
078
JJ Flores, who is a resident DJ at Crobar in Chicago, even took several minutes out to chat with us about being in Indy and that he would definitely continue to support a local event such as the iSorry Party, especially if we could pack the rooms! We talked to local DJ, Jared Curry for awhile, and he was also equally supportive, but stated that he felt a venue closer to downtown, and possibly on a different night might bring a larger crowd. As a side note, the boys of raannt would also like to suggest getting a big name sponsor so the cover charge isn’t as great and maybe people wouldn’t feel they have anything to lose by coming and once exposed, will never miss it again! We were completely intrigued and had a great night dancing and talking to all of our friends.
084
Local promoter, Jacob Stahler, did a great job bringing together local and national talent and creating the idea for the event! We wish him much success in the future and hope this is only the beginning of these events, being that we had such a great time. This is a perfect example of why we started this website in the first place…to bring awareness to amazing events in Indy that are scarcely attended. While the room was packed by the time we left, we realized it was full of die-hard music fans who probably wouldn’t be there otherwise. If we could expose the rest of Indy to this kind of event, everyone would have an “electric” time…maybe next time…if so, you can bet we’ll market the hell out of it!!!

Amazing job Jacob…and all those involved…and thanks to the local and national DJ’s who came out and gave us a great night!

Midwest Fashion Week Finale…

175

Saturday night was the finale of the Midwest Fashion Week with the Spectrum of Fashion Runway Show(at the Scottish Rite Cathedral), displaying the collections of four designers. Ok, Ok, Berny Martin, the developer behind Midwest Fashion Week, has been so nice to the boys of raannt, but we have to be honest…we were a little bit confused.

The night started off with a poorly emcee’d fashion show to bring awareness to the Autism Society of Indiana. While we think charity is wonderful, the first emcee, well…was it her first time being on a microphone? And we were a little afraid she might trip over her gown. Not to mention, it felt a little bit like a cattle call with her yelling back stage at designers and models to come out while poking her head around the the edge of the curtain. Maybe lay off the vino sister!(If that’s not the case, we desperately apologize…especially since now you have no excuse!)
140
And we were just as confused by the first two designers, as well as their models…enough said. It didn’t even feel like a fashion show. In all reality, since Berny had stated he wanted to showcase the Midwest talent and show that we had just as much talent here as anywhere else, we really thought we would be privy to a first class runway show…much like anything we might see in New York, Paris or Milan. Why not, right? And as our friend whispered to us, the first collection could have been titled, “The Mother of the Bride” Collection! The wedding and bridesmaid’s dresses were not extravagant and the presentation was a little embarrassing. We are sure the designer is a nice guy, as seen by his pleasant smile throughout the evening, but Antonio Antonio…every girl wants her breasts to fill her wedding dress on her “Princess Diary” moment! These girls couldn’t hold up the dresses!
168

Anyway, somewhere in the third quarter, the fashion show regained some integrity, as Berny Martin’s collection from his design house, Catou, hit the stage. Absolutely amazing. Stunning in fact! He had, by far, the most beautiful clothes, models and styling. We were incredibly impressed. From the music pulling the feet of the models, to the consistency of theme throughout his collection, every detail was immaculate. And although he is from the Midwest, his clothes are high style, cutting edge and eloquently designed.
We would love for him to style us for every event we go to as his clothes and his style aesthetic are impeccable! Maybe, instead of showcasing the midwest, he should consider moving away…he might be, should we even say it…too good?!
129
And so…we left happy.
But next year…maybe next year Berny will ask the boys of raannt to be part of the show…who knows, we’ll see…
We can’t wait though! We know next year, it will be even better!
bk
And…probably the BEST part of the night, was meeting our new friend Bianka Krausch, who is amazingly beautiful, hilarious and down to earth! While she chatted it up with us throughout the night, she also discussed with us at length her business ModelStore! (Check out the link) We are so excited about working with her in the future!!! Small world being that we had stood two feet away from her and her fiance the previous night at the iSorry Party! Bianka is currently planning a fashion show with designer Nikki Blaine(who was also the designer for the Moto GP fashion show/party held at Bianka and her fiance’s house), which will be held at Tru on October 30th. We’ll be writing more closer to the event! Stay tuned…

Who will we bump into next?!!! Maybe you!…

And the winner is…

as2

It’s been a crazy week having been all over town this past weekend, and we haven’t yet been able to update about everywhere we went, but it’s coming…

In the meantime, we just wanted to let you know that the winner of the weekly reader-polled interview is Miss Alana Steele! Since we’ve been so busy, we only got in touch with Alana tonight, but look forward to the interview coming in the next few days…

On a side note, it seems like everywhere we go, people stop us and ask us if we’re “the boys of raannt”, often commenting on our page. Thanks for the huge readership, it’s much appreciated. Often, someone asks us to read their website or blog. While on the phone at the Midwest Fashion Week after party, with dear friend Brittany Mason, someone put their card in Alex’s pocket and told him he had a site as well. While we don’t necessarily understand or appreciate anonymity, we did find his blog noteworthy and thought we would mention it to our readers. So for those style followers, check out ballcapsandneckties.blogspot.com. Maybe we’ll get a nod as well…hmmmm…we’ll see!

AND…Don’t forget to vote for the next interview…you have until Sunday at 12pm to vote! Oh…and it’s anonymous!

The Hawk Walk…

teenage_addiction
Ok folks, this one is dear to my heart…and it is very serious to the boys of raannt, who would most likely not even be here if it weren’t for second, third and fourth chances. Teenage addiction is one of the leading and deadliest diseases in the United States. As a person in recovery from addiction and having worked for years and years with those affected by addiction, the 24 Group Inc. is a foundation I stand behind completely, especially since I have the honor of knowing almost all of those involved since the beginning.

On Saturday, October 17th, from 9am-12pm, The 24 Group Hawk Walk…First Steps to Recovery will begin at Carmel Civic Square Gazebo. In their own words, “Please join us for this years fourth annual “Hawk Walk..First Steps to recovery”. This important fundraiser is to provide recovery support for adolescents suffering from the disease of addiction. All of the proceeds from this walk go to support adolescents in treatment for substance abuse, funds that are not available elsewhere.

“The walk is a 5K family fun walk, starting from and returning to the Gazebo in front of the city building in Carmel Indiana, we walk to celebrate Recovery along the Monon Trail on a beautiful October fall morning.

Before the walk you will have an opportunity to hear some interesting speakers and to visit our exhibitors for information on addiction, addiction treatment, and life in recovery.

Please consider forming a “Walk Team” this year ask three of your friends to walk with you or to support your walk. In this way each walk team will raise $80 in support of our effort…about the cost of one day in supportive living for an adolescent or young adult in early recovery.
hawk
There is little or no coverage for substance use treatment form traditional health insurance, please help us stand in the gap for those suffering from addiction.

We need your support this year more than ever, please get involved, take a few hours out of your hectic life, walk with us on this beautiful fall morning along the tree lined Monon Trail, and give to support a young life in recovery!!

We can tell you on this morning in October, you will experience something that is life changing…for you, and for a young person struggling with substance use. Please walk with us.”

While the boys of raannt are often misconstrued as partying, absent minded characters without focus and care for others, the reality is much of our life and the people we know, is surrounded by those affected by addiction. While only one half of us is personally, biologically affected by addiction, both of us live around recovery every day and believe that all addicts and alcoholics deserve the chance for sobriety. After 15 years of my own sobriety, as well as being able to develop a relationship with my mother who was also in recovery, I believe teenagers often get lost or left behind. The boys of raannt have made it our mission to bring social awareness to Indy and to improve the social quality of our great city, but that doesn’t mean that we turn a blind eye to those who have a chance to turn their lives around.

Please join all of those involved with the Hawk Walk, or if you can’t attend, please visit The 24 Group website, read their story and mission, and consider making a small donation…And like us, don’t let your friends drink and drive, always make sure they make it home safe, confront dangerous drug use and be enough of a friend to bring awareness to those you feel have a problem.

And if you are still concerned, contact a substance abuse professional.
